Anyone have trouble with an auto darkening welding helmet?

It sat for awhile in storage. I've cleaned it up and it works sometimes but blinds me the rest of the time. Instructions say to set it in the sun for 30 minutes to charge.

I've set it in front of a strong light, shouldn't that work?

I may as well get a new one for the price of a replacement darkening lense.

Anything I'm missing here that might get it working again?

New batteries?

 

my experience has been with one or two helmets....and it seems that if you don`t use them on a regular basis they(helmet lense) tend to go to ****.Sort of like a car battery.best get another one before you get flash burn in your eyes,NOT FUN!

 

A strong light may NOT recharge the battery unless it is a FULL SPRECRUM lamp.
Set it out in the sun for a day and see how it works.

 

I had the same problem. Left it in a storage tub for six months and thought it was broken. I just left it out in the sun for an afternoon and it is fine. The battery in it is very small, but I don't think it will wear out. Just leave it in the sun. Charges right up

 

I personally hate an auto darkening. I may use my machine twice a week on average, actually welding maybe 4 to 5 minutes at a time. The batteries in the one I had went bad all the time so I went back to a big window Huntsman and have never looked back.

 

my daughters welding helmet does the same **** but she put it in the sun for a day and seems fine now..

 

I had a bottom of the line Arc One that would give me fits sometimes . But liked the idea well enough that I popped for a top of the line Miller, I flat LOVE that one.
