The Code of the West Camaro had been raced the year before under the guise of the Invader series of floppers. Owner Gary Crowe was involved with the Invader series from the start when they debuted in late 68 with driver Mike Van Sant. Van Sant returned to the fray after driving for both M/T and SWC and assumed control of the Invader cars through the 80's.

What is the motor in this car ???

    .

  7. Looks like a small block with valve cover spacers to clear roller rockers.
Before they had tall valve covers they used spacers to clear the valve train. Mike

Rhonda sustained serious hand burns on this run and you can still see it when you shake the mans hand.

The California Stud was a totally different car.

I wont argue on the issue of the burned hands, but I will remain firm on the issue of the car having been later sold to Dave Bowman who ran it in both conventional means and later performing a remodeling job and moving things around in reverse

Either way, at 83, who wouldn't want to be as fit as Gas Ronda...

  16. Since we've apparently gotten away from "in motion", here's a couple of a Really Nice Willys from some long forgotten magazine.

That particular vehicle had a bad reputation as the most ill handling vehicle in australian drag racing at the time. It wasn't until a visiting US driver pointed out to Norm Oakey the driver that it was all because of the fact he was using steel wheel rims and that under load from a nitro hemi the wheel rims were flexing as he was going down the track thereby causing all the handling woe's. This was very quickly rectified and the beast was only half as dangerous as before.

It was also a bit of a joke around the pits that old Bill, Norm's father was secretly trying to do him in and collect on his insurance policy.
