Hello , Hot Rodders Everywhere !

Last summer I was on vacation in NORWAY and went to two automobile meets in the same weekend . Both events were sponsored by AMCAR , which is the American Car Club of Norway . Both meets had well over 100 American cars on display , in a great variety of makes , models , and years . Hot rods were represented by some 1930's , 40's , 50's , and 60's cars with some really great examples . And completely stock cars were seen with 1950's and 1960's cars being especially popular .

The only criteria for the AMCAR shows are that they are shows of AMERICAN cars , of which their Norwegian owners are especially proud . The shows were both in nice campground settings , and in Norway , everyone DRIVES their cars to the meets . You have to look very hard to find any trailers ! And gas last summer was OVER TEN DOLLARS A GALLON , but it didn't stop the Norwegians from enjoying their cars . Lots of muscle cars were at both shows , with Camaros , Mustangs , Chevelles , and Corvettes being very popular . And 1955 , 56 , and 57 Chevys could be found .

Norway has only a very short warm summer , but Convertibles are very popular at the shows . The bigger the better , so there were lots of Cadillacs , Buicks , Oldsmobiles , Chryslers and other large ragtops from the 1960's and 1970's on display . The Norwegians like cruising , and a topdown ragtop is the ultimate slow drive through a small town .

If you are heading to Scandinavia in the warm summer months , you should check out any shows in Norway in the summer . You can do a GOOGLE SEARCH for : AMCAR Norway . You can find the official club site and lots of photos and information . And , most of it is in ENGLISH , in addition to Norwegian , so you won't have any problem ! And , nearly everyone in Norway speaks perfect English , and they are very friendly . It can make a really special vacation to visit Rodders and Car Enthusiasts on the other side of the Atlantic . And , SWEDEN also has a lot of interest in American Cars , and a GOOGLE search might find some Swedish car club events , too .

There are a lot of American cars in both Sweden and Norway , and their owners are even more enthusiastic than we here in the USA . The car shows are great , fun events that are there not for the ultimate judging of cars , but to camp out and socialize for a weekend of friendship . Check out the AMCAR website , and visit if you can ! You will have a great vacation !

Best Wishes from Andrew in Maryland , U.S.A.

    Hi , hotrod_man_2000 !

Your 26 T Coupe looks great !!! You must have fun DRIVING it , rather than having a trailer queen ! It looks to very well put together , and a fun old car !

I visited Norway in June 2006 , and again in June 2008 on vacation . I was invited to come to Norway by a street rod friend who owns a 1928 Ford Tudor street rod , and a 1934 Ford street rod . Power by Chevy V8 in both , and auto transmission . And both Fords are driven to AMCAR Shows throughout the nice weather months in Norway , after a usually long and snowy winter . I have posted a lot of photos on Facebook of the car shows in Norway , and I will be posting some photos of great American cars being admired , DRIVEN , and enjoyed in Norway soon . In a car show with about 200 cars on display , nearly every car was driven to the meet . Trailers are only for cars going to the repair shop , not a car show ! KEEP ON TRUCKIN' !

I have an old 1956 DeSoto with a HEMI engine , but the car needs a lot of work . Someday . . .

But , I enjoy seeing great cars all around the world !

Best Wishes from Andrew in suburban Maryland

Hello and welcome from Hanover PA. I spent a vacation in Norway in July/August 2006. I am partners in shipping company that specializes in containers to Norway and Sweden. We actually advertise in AMCAR magazine from time to time. My business partner lives in Lena which is located approximately 1.5 hrs north of Oslo. We have shipped countless cars, parts, motorcycles, atv's, boats, tractors, and even a plane and a helicopter. I spent 10 days over there riding around on my friends 1937 flathead. We camped out in Flisa at the dozer mc annual party it was great time it was just to short.

    Take care!

    Hi , Seth !

It is nice to hear you have visited Norway and had a great time ! The Norwegians love ALL American cars , and it doesn't matter if it is an old Rambler , or the SHELBY SERIES ONE ( Shelby's latest sports car made in very limited numbers a few years ago ) ! Lots of all out 55 - 56 - 57 Chevys with the best of speed equipment , just short of a drag car but for the street . And they have fun in spite of the highest gas prices in Europe . When we were crying about FOUR dollars per gallon , they were paying about TEN . And driving their big block muscle cars from the 60's to the meets !
For the rest of you who don't know about hot rodding in Norway , just search on GOOGLE : AMCAR Norway .

A few more photos from the AMCAR Show in Favang , Norway that I attended in June 2006 . The location was about 45 minutes from Lilliehammar , and was a beautiful drive , following along the river , with high mountains on either side of the highway .

Here are a few photos of friends bikes from my trip to Norway. Thats me on the 37 participating in a drunken slowdrag race with a rocker clutch and ape hangers. I came in second but there were only three of us..:D The guy that lost had to get a tattoo of a weird fish on his knee! slowdrags.jpg

    To Seth Eisehart :

Glad that you had a great time on vacation in Norway , riding around on old motorcycles !

At the AMCAR Show I went to last June , there were a lot of BOSS HOGG motorcycles ( big cycles with Chevy V8 engines ) on display . And , funniest yet , a MOTORIZED BAR STOOL ! Neat , but probably very difficult to ride .

I have some more AMCAR Photos that I will post in the near future of the shows of 2008 . The ones I have posted already were from June 2006 .

Best Wishes from Andrew in Maryland
