The quiet ones it seems are the ones that will take their own life.. I lost a good friend last fall a riding buddy and although he was younger than me we were really good buds and i never saw it in him . His family didnt either.. I had another friend of mine say he was selfish ?
Im not so sure about that... These people have problems and it seems if you look close most of the time no one ever saw it coming... Its a disease and if they dont tell us we really dont know they have it... This kid (he was younger than me by 20 years) did express a desire to just call it quits but his family thought he was joking so they maybe did see it but chose to ignore it ... I never saw it in him but he never spoke of calling it quits with me either. Pay attention you could help save a life..

A member of my family attempted suicide several years ago at age 20. She was in a coma for 18 days and by the grace of God she lived. It makes you wonder just what terrible things must go on in their minds when they make this often final decision..........
God Bless you Brandon and may you rest in peace........Mike

  9. That's such a tough thing. Very sad. There's so much life after 16 or 20 or even 40. You just gotta hang in there. I too have had some pretty dark-blue chapters.
There are some very good hearts and words in this thread.
God have mercy on all of us.

After reading this yesterday I took my 13 year old daughter out to the taqueria last night. She's been kinda difficult the past few months. I told her what I'd read here, and what was on my mind.

She turned off her cell phone and didn't roll her eyes once. We had a good talk. Some good has come of this thread: I got to appreciate a good evening out with my daughter.

Losing a friend or loved one to suicide sucks. I lost my father to it 32 years ago, and a couple of friends since.
My heart goes out to you as well as Brandon's family.

    Guitar Guy...
I will bet youcould find alot of guys here that have had dark thoughts, I think we all have at times though few of us will likely ever admit it. We've lost a job (but there are others), lost a woman (the world is half full of 'em) or we just feel like crap, better days come along eventually.

I've had thoughts like that myself for what in hindsight seemed to be "valid reasons" that I have overcome. You can over come your valid reasons. Trust me your sentence was heard here, and you are in our thoughts. I am new here but there is compassion in the people here. Read the thoughts in this string, read the thoughts in the posts about people here losing their jobs and friends, people care. They really do.

Think of it this way, no one is getting out of here alive anyway, so why rush it. And there are people that love you that would be devestated. The world is a better place with you in it.. just ask the people who love you.

I printed out this thread and gave it to my racing buddies. They both choked up after the first few posts and were really touched by all the kind sentiments from complete strangers. I've told them about the power of the HAMB in the past, but I think in their mind this was just a message group for "streetrodders". They still don't understand the significance of what it is we do "spreading the gospel of traditional hot rods and customs to hoodlums worldwide..." but I think they get it now. Their passion may be exclusive to vintage stockcars, but if they weren't some of the forerunners and pioneers of hot rods, what was? This is another classic instance of old cars bringing complete strangers together for a good cause.
While none of you knew Brandon, you shared your thoughts, prayers and stories and I think that, more than anything I could do to explain the HAMB, made the biggest impression. Don't be surprised if a couple good old farts from Bangor sign up sometime soon, if just to say thanks.
They might also want to share the build progress of Brandon's coupe. They both agreed that it was a wonderful idea. They assumed that the old car would end up down at their shop eventually, but beyond that they had no plans.
Tonight Ron mentioned that there was nothing left, that Brandon was gone and we all had to deal with it. I told him that wasn't necessarily true, that there was a way we could keep a small piece of Brandon on the track and around the shop always. So, if all goes as planned and Brandon's parents agree to let us take the car, it will get done.
Even if they don't sign on, I will start a thread to show what's going on.
Oh, and I guess I was mistaken, it's not a 53, it's a 49 or 50. It's a car that is fugly and rusty beyond belief, but with a lot of elbow grease, Yankee ingenuity and some paint, it ought to churn up the dirt in the turns just fine.
Again, I really appreciate everyone's kind words as I'm sure Brandon does.
    I love this place.

Can't drive by it anymore. This is a sad post but if it does one person good then it is worth it.

RIP young man and I hope the pain is gone.

Lost a man about 35 years ago we all looked up to as kids. To us he was a hero of sorts and he was a good man. A damn good man. All over a woman. Hard to put it away and forgive him. I still haven't really.

It wears and holds heavy on those left behind forever. And the ones that followed over the years it has been hard to make my peace with them and why.

That's a relief bro! You spooked a lot of people. I figured that's what you meant, but as you can see, this place takes care of their own.

I lost a cousin like this, she was someone I grew up with and looked up to, she was my age, she had been involved in drugs, got clean and was doing well, but she got back into them. she just couldn't take it any more and put a gun in her mouth. still affects me every day, wishing i could have done something. I'm putting the video up, for long black train, some people think this is a song to promote suicide, not by any means, he's telling people to avoid that long black train, if you turn to God,that train will pass you by, in the video, the people who had turned away from him were lost, and the ones who did,the train passed them by. this is a quote one person wrote on the video
any young people on here who even think about it,Don't do it!! turn to god,he will send someone to help you, go to a church, talk to someone there, talk to a friend, If it's bad enough to go the police station, DON"T get on that train!! there are people all around you who want you to live. you may not think so, but there are. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gybGXnciig

    here's the lyrics

There's a long black train, comin down the line,
Feeding off the souls that are lost and cryin'

Rails of sin only evil remains,

Watch out brother for that long black train,

Look to the heaven's you can look to the sky,
You can find redemption starin back into your eyes,

There is protection and there's peace the same,

Burn in your ticket for that long black train,

Cause there's victory in the Lord I say,

    Victory in the Lord,

Cling to the father and his holy name,

And don't go ridin on that long black train,

There's an engineer on that long black train,

Makin you wonder if your ride is worth the pain,

He's just a waitin on your heart to say,

Let me ride on that long black train

Cause there's victory in the Lord I say,

    Victory in the Lord,

Cling to the father and his holy name,
And don't go ridin on that long black train,

Well I can hear the whistle from a mile away,

It sounds so good but I must stay away,

That train is a beauty makin everybody stare,

But its only destination is the middle of nowhere,

Cause there's victory in the Lord I say,

    Victory in the Lord,
Cling to the father and his holy name,
and don't go ridin on that long black train,

Cling to the father and his holy name,

And don't go ridin on that long black train,

Yea watch out brother for that long black train,

That devil's drivin that long black train,

I can't express to everyone that has left comments for me and the young man on here how much it helps to have someone on your side i know i shouldn't feel guilty and there are days that everything seems ok and others that aren't but i am slowly learning how to get over this myself. My wife is a big help and alot of the reason we are married is because the day this happened i went to her at work and she was there for me.We had only been together for 2 months and she showed more compassion than anyone i have ever met in my life. After that day i quit running round and acting like an idiot i settled down and decided life was too short to never be happy and just over a year later i married her and she has been the best thing to ever happen to me.I came from a very broken home and had a very shitty upbringing and as a kid i sometimes i wondered how i would make it through and never thought i would have made it as long as i have. But i have an awesome little boy who is my world and along with my wife keeps me sane. I would honestly like to say to all of you that the group of people on this board are few and far between. You guys and gals are a great bunch of people in a world that seems it could give a shit less about thier fellow man.

As I read these post I think of all the kids in this country
that could use a good "Grand Pa" or maybe an "uncle"or just a good friend that would show some interest,Take em to a car show,a club meeting, or any other outing that might be interesting.I noticed in the survey that there is a lot of guys that that are of retirement age,
would this be something you could do or would be interested in? This might be something that would give your life a lift and maybe give you some help to get up
and work on your project and make a new friend too.
Think about, might even bring some new blood into our sport.Teaching is great fun.
