A few more pics! The dragster belongs to a friend of mine, Bill Bronson, and was his grandpa's, as was the full-fendered roadster. Both were in action back in the early 50's, the roadster maybe even since the 40's as a rod. The dragster was raced in various configurations until retired from racing around '62 or '63. It still runs and drives too!
More Indiana area hotrods/customs. Some of these have been rods/customs since the mid '50s. However, the Desoto seems to be an ongoing project that only improves with age. The copper colored roadster is fairly recent though, built in a way that represents the "show rod" era of the '60s.
I sure like this one! Know anything about it, like is the roof bare & cleared? Brushed finish or polished?
I believe the roof of the Desoto was cleared bare metal. I believe it's just been chopped in the last month or two.
great pictures of the Motorama 1962. it was a blast to put on and everyone involved had a great time all weekend. the desoto has been chopped 3 inches, tom culbertson and dustin cooper{car owner} started it around thanksgiving time. dustin sanded and sanded and sanded some more till the roof was polished, then he cleared it/ hopefully there will be more of the Motorama pictures posted soon. i would have taken some and posted em but i was a lil busy most of the weekend!!!!
Here's a pic of the Desoto back in October getting ready to run the Newport Hill Climb. As Yancey (G***edbaker) said, 3" was taken out of the top and still utilized all the factory stainless on the top. The rear windows still go up and down as well. About 3 months ago, I was on here trying to find an extra '55 Desoto windshield... I ended up using the factory one. Tom Culbertson and I finished the top up the night before the show. It is an ongoing project for the past 5 and a half years, since I was 15 years old. I'll paint it next winter just before the Indy show. Anyway... Nice pics you have. I know some of us were just too busy having a good time to even think about taking pics . And thanks for the comments on the car... means alot
Dustin, I couldn't get over the roof on that DeSoto! Way cool! Making me rethink my BelAir. The entire show was unbelievable. One hing that struck me (besides Henry Winkler;s wardrobe) was this beautiful red Merc, sitting in a corner all by itself, with no one even looking at it. I stopped and talked with the owner to tell him how beautiful his car was and how the crowd was missing out by not walking 3 feet extra to look at i...
Dustin, I remember your Desoto when you had it at Hunnert and your striped my A chopped pickup and your car was red and white if I recall. WAY COOL! You are one talented dude! Eric
Thanks for the kind words. Also, a special thank you to the Road Rockets for putting on such a awesome event. There is more on the dragster at http://www.cacklefest.com/Bronson.shtml There is more on the Roadster at entry number 21 of the attached string http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=176325&highlight=****+kraft&showall=1
Dustin, your car is looks *****in'. I was going to come over to the show but opted to work out in my garage all day instead.....
I'll post a seperate thread on the chop here within the next week or so. Between about three of us, there should be enough pictures. We're all still trying to recover from the weekend and from many weeks prior to the show itself. And... dad is taking El Tiki to the Carl Casper show this weekend and I got wrapped up into doing that with him lol. For Plowboy and the rest of you guys, thanks.
