Hey there, are any of you guys running an open drive banjo?? I guess there is a place in Nampa Idaho that will convert your banjo to open drive and to ford 9" style insert axels. I know you can buy the open drive kit from Speedway, but you are still stuck with those old keyed axels and old syle ford brakes. any thoughts??? Chris
Hot Rod Works. My uncle has used their open drive conversions, and was very happy with them. He said it was a better fitting kit than Speedway's. I'm ordering mine from them.
I converted my Halibrand quickchange to slide in axles. I had all the machine work done locally, and took the rear end itself to Moser to have the 9" housing ends installed and axles made. Do a few searches on here about conversions, you may be able to save a few bucks in the end if you do your homework.
the place is Hot Rod Works , here is their website: http://www.hotrodworks.com i'd stay away from the Speedway open driveline kit , i understand it is a foreign made copy of hot rod works i like the idea of the later axles. however, if the original axles are in good shape , the axle nuts properly torqued and you don't beat the crap out of it they will be fine. i've used a few open Halibrand rears stock axles with no problems
I installed the nine inch type axle set up in my banjo rear. We got the kit from hotrodworks as well. If plan on putting any power to those stock axles you will twist them like a pretzel. Believe me I know.
