hello, im jordan..jake of all trades, master of none. I recently found a 1959 ford, maybe mercury meteor? anyway, it looks like a fairlane with a ranchero top. What I mean is, is that it's a 1959 FoMoCo 2 door, 2 seater car. like a 59 ranchero with a trunk basically, anyone know what im talking about?
whaddya mean bad intro? it's a 1959 ford/maybe mercury meteor. It's a two-door, two-seater car. it's like a thunder-lane, i guess. I can't find one online like it.
Hello Jordan maybe somewhere near Canada with a wierd Ford. (Is that redundant?) You got a picture to post of it?
so its like a hugely long decklid? Could it be a modified ranchero with a decklid looking tonneau cover? Try to get a pic of it if you can, I wanna see this rig Briggs
factory played with some prototypes of 52 Fords when they were working out the kinks on the Thunderbird's suspension. Just came across a reference and a picture of one today, actually. they looked like regular Ford sedans with about 18 inches cut out from behind the door/ahead of the rear wheelwell. Looked funky, kinda like the shortened tri-5 chevies. if this is what you say you have, you're either fake or the luckiest man alive, because I'm sure the prototypes were all crushed at some point. welcome, btw. dan
Dude lay off the bong long enough to post a picture, thats rude, get everyone worked up and not have a picture. These guys will eat you alive if you don't get a picture posted. By the way welcome to the board.I really want to see what your talking about, sounds interesting.
You could tell us somethin about yourself/location car projects etc etc[INTRO] then we'd sure like to see a pic of this rare car/truck?
[ QUOTE ] You could tell us somethin about yourself/location car projects etc etc[INTRO] then we'd sure like to see a pic of this rare car/truck? [/ QUOTE ] oh, sorry...my name is jordan, i live in yuma, az (southernest corner of arizona.) Im a student at the local community college, im getting my cert. in Auto Tech, and after this semester i'll be done. Im currently working on a 1959 Mercury Monterey 4dr hardtop, will have red/white interior and exterior. the 312 in it is pretty worn, and the closest thing I can find in terms of longblock is a 292, so I'll live with that. Also, I have 5 other cars (94 crownvic, 73 coupe deville, 72 Skylark, 78 Chevy Silverado, 69 c-10), but the only two I'm worrying about finishing so far is my mercury and the 69 c-10. The c-10 has a 350 4bolt main, and i'm currently in the process of someday painting it. That's about all I do all day. Go to school, sand, try to find parts, and try my hardest not to drag anything else home I'll have pictures tomorrow afternoon. p.s. - i mean thunder-lane because it looks like a two seater fairlane. maybe it's a mercury meteor, i don't know. hopefully by tommorow i'll know. sorry bout the intro.
Good intro. That's what they were looking for. Can you tell if this thing looks factory, or if it's been cut on? I'm not a Ford guy, but I've never heard of anything like it. If it is as you describe it, I'm guessing it's a custom job that somebody built at some point. If it was done well, you should try to get it. It would be a cool car to get people scratching their chins... Looking forward to those pictures.
I owned a 59 mercury with a 312 in it 2 door hardtop The 312 was in a lot of 59s.Wish i still had it.have photos around somewhere but dont know how to post them
Bruce, when I was a kid I worked for a rancher thad had a 59 merc with a 312 3 speed. I never thought much of it at the time, must have started life as a 292, you think? I would almost bet money this kid is seing a retractable.
You know it just occurred to me that the retractables actually fold down midway through the roof as they fold into the trunk.. If the front portion of the roof was broken off at the hinges and sitting in place on top of the windshield, and the rest of the roof was in the trunk, it would look alot like he's describing...
Retractables have roll-down 1/4 windows tho. He may have the same thing a buddy of mine had. He took an old 69 dart and cut the top off right behind the front seat and welded the original rear glass and surround in for a "ranchero" lookin thing.. He spliced several old dart decklilds together to make a loooooooooong decklid. Looked just like what this guy is describing and was really pretty functional with it's huge, locking trunk.
I went to took pictures, when a shirtless older fella told me that it used to be a four door, but has been cut down to a two seater. He aint selling it, and ,of course, will restore it someday.
That's kinda cool. Kinda ugly, too. There's a guy that drives around Keller (north of Ft Worth) that has a similarly modified silver '65 Olds F-85.
