What is a good IFS for a 40's Dodge truck? A buddy of mine picked up one last week and asked me to see what I could find. I did a search and didn't come up with much. I've put Mustang ll's under a few vehicles but never a Mopar truck. He has found a guy that will put a Nova clip under it for him but I was concerned about the track width. It's also an old one with drum brakes so also wondered about rebuilding costs.
JW Rod Garage has the crossmember and suspension for that truck, Ive used 10 or so and have great luck with them, give them a call 1-888-414-8787 Phil
We put a Fatman under a buddy of mines truck a few years ago. Except for having to upgrade to stiffer springs,it worked out great.
I like the fatman unit also but we are doing a few with the dodge dakota ch***is, here is a link to one, the track is a little wide and you really have to watch what wheels you use and the early dakotas had 5 on 4 1/2" but the 92 and newer went to a 6 lug patterns but the rotors will exchange for the 5 lug ones. sadly NO my friend sold it to one of his friends and he has about 5 other projects and the truck is just sitting. my friend even tried to buy it back to finish it but the other guy didn't want to sell it just yet. my son is doing one to and that one has been on hold for about a year now , he plans to get back to it next week and I just stripped a dakota off for its ch***is for my 46 COE project, Ill take pics as I go on that one. I also vote for Fatman, but you can also try a late 30's or early 40's Mopar car, they had IFS with coil springs.
Ive heard of people using an s-10 frame you just have to cut a few inches out of the center. width is perfect though.
Double check this, but if my OLD brain remembers correctly, the STOCK Mustang 2 crossmember is the same width inside as the frame is outside on the 39-47s.
