Opinion on these wheels? Anyone tried them?

Friend is building a mostly traditional (Brookville) Hemi powered 32 Hiboy roadster.

He's been dead set on a set of polished magnesium Halibrands for years. We've been looking for years, too. I think he fell in love w/ the look when I had a set on my 29 roadster.
However- finding a set that will polish up is another story.

Then we found these. Real Rodders Wheels has a set of never polish w/ the magnesium "look".
    What do you think?
Polished aluminum left, magnesium right. I like the idea of never polishing them! Been there, done that!

Looked at these for quite some time now, finally saw them at GNRS, still can't decide if they look TOO gold or not. My buddy thought they were great but I wonder what they would look like in relation with the other chrome on a vehicle !

Didn't match anything else on my 29. I always loved the look. If it was all the same- no one would even notice unless U parked next to another car w/ polished aluminum wheels.

  6. That is the same process Edelbrock and others use......lloks less gold in the real world, nice finish and durable as hell.

I like the timeless wheel design. Polished wheels do tend to be on the bright side, sometimes taking away from the vehicle itself. I really like the look on the right...

    No polish does help...:D

I have always preferred alum. mags . I have owned them since the early 1970's with my ET slotted alum mags ! Never let me down .

Steve I checked out the "mag look" wheels in the Real Rodder's Wheels booth at the GNRS. In person they are not too gold. They did a hell of a job on both the polished look, and the Dow 7 finish. I ran polished Halibrands on my RPU in the 60's, so I know what they look like. I would be totally happy with their polished mag look wheels on my car. One hell of a lot less work to maintain too!

I like them too, always loved the look of polished magnesium, but hated the upkeep! These wheels are a little salty ($$$) though!!

I'm sorta partial to polished metal anyway, but I gotta go with the wheel on the right. It has the look like you spent all day wearing your arm out polishing it up!

  20. the right wheel here as well , an hour a wheel polishing ****s!

My friend's opinion is- the wheels & stance make the car.
Yea- they are expensive but for a reality check, go price a set of vintage magnesium wheels in good enough condition to polish up.
I'm helping him w/ the build because he's been a big help to me all my life. Health issues have pretty much put a damper on him doing it alone. ****s to get old. We are gathering "stuff" now. Has the body, have the frame from So-Cal, getting the motor from a friend, a 392 Hemi but he wants to drive the piss out of it so it may have 3 pedals & a OD trans w/ a QC rear of some sort. Will have to be stout as the motor will have a blower.

I remember polishing magnesium wheels on my fendered 29 roadster. Took all day to do the set on the car but the results were like nothing else out there. My fingers are cramping just thinking about it!
I'll see if I can find a pic. Pretty much HAMB friendly.

Oh- a few asked about the company.
USA made & very high quality. They also have a real magnesium wheel on the horizon when the manufacturing price drops to somewhere in reality world.

I had a set of the aluminum wheels on my 40- years ago. That was back when Eric Vaughan owned the company.

Gotta go with the polished "mag" wheel, good looks, little or no up-keep, no brainer from where I sit! (Really was impressed with their display @ GNRS.)

Real Rodders Wheels are without compare by any others on the market and they're made in the USA. IMO there is nothing offered by any other manufacturer even close to the quality of their products. I've got a set of original Eric's on my 3W that I got in '84, the right offset, right width and with a little effort polishing still look like new. If you can afford the Real Rodders you won't be disappointed. The FOGGER

So what is the finish? Powdercoat? Ceramic coat? or chrome paint??? Does anybody know what they are using as I doubt they invented some new coating??

Just curios as it does look nice. Being on the East I have never seen the polished mag look. Do they really have a gold tint? I thought it looked like a nickel type finish???

    Thanks

I talked to Pat O'Brien about it at the GNRS and I think he said it is a ceramic coating. It needs to be cleaned and handled judiciously.
