    Hey,

This past summer i payed $5.00 for a manual transmission to a mid to late fifties Ford car. Its for the 272, 292, or 312 and it still works. How much are they worth?

You apperently gave more for it than anyone else would, so the market that day said 5 bucks.

  3. And it depends on what kind of Ford transmission it is. If just a regular old Ford 3 speed, not much unless you find a dude that is desperate for one right at the moment. If it's a T-85, well that's another story.

Ah, wow...i thought i got a good deal too. lol.
Yeah, its just the old Ford 3-speed. I also got the flywheel, pressure plate, clutch, a pair of exhaust manifolds and a pair of valve covers for the 292.

I also have a Merc-O-Matic...how much are those worth?

    Thanks!

After going 'round the block a few times, and even 'round the bend a time or two, I have learned there are 2 figures for "what its worth". The first figure is the seller's, the second is the buyer's. To me, the one that counts is the second.

I figure any of my stuff is worth what I paid for it until I sell it, then its worth whatever someone pays me that day.

The flywheel is worth the most . The trans is still good for when someone want to **** can that Ford O Matic ! The clutch and pressure plate is good for core charge . Go and you will see what parts dealers charge for a core charge . Hell you can sell the on that auction site for core easily !

  8. I have about a dozen of them. I sold one for $75.oo three years ago. I have 4 that are overdrive.

  9. I just bought a T-89 (same as a T-85) with OD for $100. On ebay the damn solenoids sell for over a hundred bucks.

I guess it's not what it's worth, but what will one pay.

  11. Can anyone tell me how to tell the more common 3 speed and the T-85 apart? I'm getting ready to pull the '55 Ford that my parents bought new out of the shed and start working on it, would like to know which trans I have. I know it has the original trans and it still runs quiet, shifts good, and doesn't jump out of gear or anything. As far as I can tell there is nothing coded on the serial number plate that tells. Serial # prefix U5MT breaks down as U=272 V8, 5=1955 model year, M=Memphis TN ***embly plant, T=Fairlane Town Sedan body style. Production code is 21GNK4618D. 21G indicates ***embly date of 7/21/55, don't know how to decode the rest of the production code. I would suspect that transmission is coded in there somewhere but I don't know. It has the 272 Y block with 2 barrel carb and factory dual exhaust. The factory duals were standard in the Fairlane trim line, only V8's with crossover pipe and single exhaust were in Customlines and Mainlines.

  12. T-85 & T-89 have 9 bolt side plates with a rounded bottom. A T-85 or a T-89, if an overdrive will have R-11 on it. They will also say T-85 on them somewhere, probably around the side plate.

  13. Thanks, should be easy enough to identify. Will crawl under it tomorrow and see what I have.
