Sorry it took so long to comment on this photo but it took awhile to go through all the great photos in this thread.

Sorry to Leadsledmerc for "Borrowing" his photo but he asked for comments. I had to post because the black 32 was one of the cars that lead to my own many years of amateur drag Racing.

The car in the photo is the infamous "Blown Hearse" from Terryville Connecticut. It was owned by Dicky Doyle the "local hero" and another partner that I can't remember to make the D&E Automotive you can read on the roof. The original garage is still there if you go way out East Main st.

It was a 4/71 GMC blower on a lowly 348 not a 409. I know because I used to pedal my heavy one gear Schwin to the garage every Sat. just so I could hear the 348 light off while they were tuning for Sundays raceday. Yes they used to fire it up open headers and all and the earth really did shake.

The photo in question had to be 1963 or 1964 because I still didn't get my license to drive untill 1965 and by that time they had ditched the whitewalls. I had the opertunity to see it race a few times when for my birthday present I dragged my father to Conneticut Dragway or Dover Ny to see it run. Great old photo.

As many people have said this thread is a great running history of our sport keep them coming.

Don't be sorry, claymore...thanks for sharing the awesome story!

Like I said when I posted those pic's, they were found in the dump out my way, so it's cool to get some history on the cars.

I was the "Hey kid" around the garage on Sat. You know hey kid pass me that 1/2 inch or hey kid get away from the car.

I also learned some drag racing words that I found out the hard way not to use around my mother.

Check out the canted headlights on the '64 Impala. Different front bumper too.

  20. That's one of the things I like about these old pictures is the stuff in the back ground.

This was the Plueger Bros. and Densham Corvette. It was cursed with handling problems from the start. It debuted in very late 1969.

Yeah I was standing level with the starline that night and John just sat there for at least 8-10 seconds with the old 331 hemi loping over and when he jumped on the loud pedal to move he came very close to stalling the damn thing.

After he moved off Barry Lord the head man in the fire crew walked up with an extinguisher and started to put the fuel out. He was spraying away with the extinguisher and walking through the middle of the fuel puddle only to find that it reignited right behind him. When he realised what was happening the leap out of it would have made Sylvester the Cat proud.
