I plan on lowering my 54 f-100 and was wondering if I flip the springs in the rear, how many inches will it drop it? I plan on using a dropped axle or mono leafs in the front. I don't want to take any leafs out of the stock leaf springs. Would a mono leaf be the way to go for the rear or a flip kit? I would like to drop it about 5 inces. I did some searching and heard good things about mono leafs, but didn't find anything about how low would flipping the rear springs lower it. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated?

    Thanks,

    Phil

Just a regular flip will lower the rear 6".

Sounds right: Thickness of the spring (in the middle) + the spring pad + the axle housing diameter + the springpad again ( ***uming the pad is relocated to the bottom of the housing).

Can't you do the same in the front? I think it might require some minor surgery on the axle to relocate the spring "pad" surface to the bottom.

Yep you could do it in the front, but its a bit more work to get perches welded to that axle, etc...

Thought about doing that to my 64 truck at one point... Logistics overcame what its worth. You have to take steering geometry into account, watch the scrubline, watch your oil pan (make sure it don't hit!), etc...

take a couple of the overload springs out up fornt thats what my dad did [IMG]
I just got a 3 inch drop axle from sids drop axles for 350 I plan on taking a couple overlaoad springs out to soften the ride and it should give me at least an inch and the back running a mono leaf will make it drop to much to run any kind of decent tire since it will rub the fenders

You say it will drop the rear too much with a mono leaf. How much? What size tire would look right?

if you want to put a mini notch in it would help but it makes the rear awful soft in mine and my dads opinion he is going to put a couple back in before it goes on the road you can also flip the rear shackles it will bring it down some.

I reversed the spring eyes in the front, and lost a few leafs (don't remember how many) and I got 6 inches. I started out flipping the front axle over the springs, and it was too much, there just wasn't enough room above the springs.

I am thinking of ordering a 4 inch dropped axle for the front and reversed mono leafs in the rear which is supposed to drop it 5 inches in the rear. Would that give me a good stance or woold that be too low? Also, what size tires should I go with. I am thinking 6.70x15 for the front, but not sure about the rear? Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Impossible. But I think it'll look good with 4 and 5" out of it...

  11. With my '53 I took every 2nd leaf out of the rears and left the diff underneath, dropped it about 5". Rides nice and is still ok to throw gear in the back of. Has about 4 inches left before the bump stops.
with the front I just reversed the second leaf from the top and that flattened out the springs. It rode ok (still felt like an old Pickup!).

I've just pulled the front out of it and fitted Jaguar ifs, mainly because I wanted power steering and decent brakes (the old ones are going on my model A - who says rodders are not recyclers!)

I hope I'm not asking to many questions, but what about tire sizes. I've seen f-100's with 6.70x15 for the front, but what about the rear?

    Thanks again.
