I made a deal for this 1955 Mercury yesterday and picked up this morning. It's a 56,000 original mile rock solid California car that has just been neglected lately. I hate to see cool cars sitting around going to hell so I brought it home for a little love. Here are some before and after pictures of what just CLEANING can do for a car! I also drove it to it's first cruise night tonight just for the heck of it.
those are some cool AAA stickers and plaque can you shoot and post some straight on shots of that? nice job cleaning and getting an old owner to let go of it.
Here are some of the stickers and badges on it. The green one is from Palo Alto. The one in the windshield is a Canada State park p*** from 1961 and a California AAA sticker. The one on the decklid is a metal and blue ceramic California AAA badge. All pretty cool. No wax. I did use a little cleaner though.
BEAUTIFUL CAR! I love that series ('55-'56) Merc...don't see enough of them anymore. Good job rescuing that baby!
It actually started right up and ran smooth and quiet right from it's resting spot. The PO had kept it running great with a new gas tank, fuel pump, battery, dual exhaust and complete new brakes. Even the power brakes and steering work perfectly as does everything else but the clock. If it weren't for the old bias ply tires it would be road ready. It's got a Y-block 4bbl and auto. He said it was a 312 but I don't know if 312's were offered in the Merc that year.
Oh ****... The "4-door" boys are gonna go crazy over your "new" car when they see it on our other site...LBCC Ken
WOW that car turned out awsome. Ive got one too and its for sale. I tried posting it on the hamb but my pics wouldnt upload. Mine is a 1956 4 door hardtop phaeton medalist. These cars look awsome even in four door form. pm me with your email adress and ill send you pics that way
that looks really good. wish i could scrub mine till it looked that good. did you drive back by the previous owner and let him see.
looks great. it's always a pleasant surprise when you scrub 'em down for the first time and they look pretty good under all the ****.
The engine looks original with the "tea pot" Holley 4bbl so it shoud be whatever they came with stock in 55. 312 is just what the PO told me, but he may not have known.
