Look what I found,$1500 57 Sedan Delivery,

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by oldfart, Feb 23, 2009.

  1. As some of you know I had a deal with a guy from Ga.to trade for his 60 chevy sedan delivery and the deal fell through.
I saw this 57 sedan delivery on C-list in a town about 40 miles from here. When I saw the price($1500),I thought that it was a misprint.I went & looked at it.Its been sitting for years It has a seized 327 w/headers and a 4bbl,350 TH ( ran when parked),Headlight tops are rust free w/no patches, wheel wells are rust free w/no patches. The guy has paperwork going back 20 years.
Being a Florida car,it has a lot of rust in the roof, especially where the rear tailgate hinges to the inside top (I have NO idea how I'm gonna fix that). The owner accepted a $200 deposit & gave me 2 weeks to come up w/the rest.I always said that I would give my left testicle for a decent 57.(I dont use em anyway)
These are the only pictures I have I will post more when I get it home. I do have one question now,the floorboards are fairly solid but have a lot of dime & quarter sized holes. How do I patch them or should I wait and buy new floor panels?

Scooooore! Well done oldfart. Now you can keep your nuts and have a '57 Chevy too - and a rare body style to boot.

I'm with Harms Way - do the floors properly - you do want to keep it don't you?

As someone who just patched his floorboards, I'll say that's *NOT* what I'll do next time!! Better to replace the whole shebang at once than make half a dozen little patches that need to be fitted and welded in. Mine had some pinholes and some rust outs, just not worth fooling iwth to find the 'good' metal to weld to, I shoulda ripped all of it out.

    Great score!

Those are nice body styles. At this price, I think it is a very good buy.

    That's a very good buy, I love 150 delivery's.

    Is the side trim there?
I've been looking for the 150 quarter trim for years.

Great find!!!!!! My brother will sand blast the floors that appear good and find rough textured metal but not rusted all the way through. He will sometimes use a jb weld or similar material and skim coat the area...a little sanding and looks good as new. As for actual holes ...gotta replace the metal. I would suspect they are repopping all parts of the 57 by now.
My bro only does that repair when parts are unavailable. If cleaned well enough and properly top coated it is a good repair. Of course we are in NY.....the cars rot in every area imagineable...so this keeps us from saving some parts of the original car

Congratulations! What a deal, a buy of a lifetime. 57 Chevy anything usually go for a ton of dough regardless of condition. Looks to me like you have a really decent one.:D

Don't know how the GM wagon hinges interchanged, and over which years, but up here in the midwest cars usually rot from the bottom up, maybe you could find donor sections from a GM wagon up here.

  19. Take your time, and replace the floors...new, entire pans are available...

Nice score oldfart, welcome to the club! Looking forward to more pics. I did
a 64 Comet wagon a couple yrs. back that was suffering terminal roof rot.
Just measured and braced carefully and cut it off, replacing it with a cherry
roof the owner sourced from Arizona. I'm in the middle of replacing floors
on my 57 now. Let me know what you need and i'll see if I can help.
Definitely check out MP&C's link for inspiration,he does a great job of
    do***enting these repairs.

Heres my wagon/delivery I've had for 34 yrs. now.

I'm nominating you for the King of C's-list. I just have two questions: Is that nice five-window cab on hold for now, and wh-a-a-a-a-t was that purple thing on your previous avatar???? (oh yeah -- thanks for the oranges, they were the best) Jerry
