Why would he need two if the law only requires him to display one? Makes no sense to me.

    1. It's the State. They aren't required to make sense.
    2. They were issued as a pair, so the have to be registered as a pair. It's to help make sure that one of the pair isn't running around on another car.

Buzzard is right, you must own and be able to prove you have possession of both YOM plates. But.....you only are required to run one. Additionally they will only issue you one (1) NEW antique plate if you go that route and dont run YOM.

Every county office is different, every person behind the desk is different. Make nice, and GO INFORMED!!!
Print the correct info you need, head them off at the pass etc....
If you are informed and appear informed they will likely go off you, as its not something any of these people see everyday. Remember they are used to plating Honda Civics daily.

Farm plates.......seriously guys??? If you want to try running Farm plates on your vintage Duece or what have ya think about it. You'll look like a farmer that stole the hay truck plates for a run to town because he's trying to cheat the goverment out of taxes, and ends up getting ticketed. Looks the same today as then. Farm plates belong on trucks, enough said.

Trucks are the luckiest they can run car plates, truck plates or farm plates. Cars only make sense to run the car plate. I saw a late-30s Ford car at a cruise last year with a truck plate, and I laughed so hard.

This had Texas Farm Truck tags on it when I first picked it up. Not YOM either.

And I say you are the correct person to be running them.

You try throwing a couple haybales in the bed and driving it to the Tax Office? SHow them it sitting in the parking lot, and ask why it cant have Farm plates? Bet they rethink it.

I just bought some super-cherry '59 Farm Truck plates. Hopefully it will help explain some of the rust on my POC pickup.

  10. Sorry about draggin an old thread up but, the rules have changed and the TX DMV will no longer allow YOM Farm Truck plates. I tried to register using them on 2/20/09 and the supervisor pulled out a memo saying no specialty plates (including Farm Truck) could be registered as YOM. I think the memo was from Dec. 08.

I dug all over the TXDOT website and I could find nothing about using YOM Farm Truck plates. So I bought a nice original set that I guess I will just have to hang up in the garage. Thank you TXDOT.

I can forget trying in another office since we only have one here.

I know this is an old thread but there has been one more change in the Texas YOM plates. They are no longer issuing the metal tags for the plates but windshield stickers just like every other car. To me it defeats the purpose of running old plates. Now you have the ugly sticker on the lower left of the windshield.

GO TO ANTINUE SHOPS! I found a set of 1950 black with gold lettered plates for $60 inside a milk crate full of old license plates! Took them to the court house and had them regestered for my 1950 Chevy. A couple of weeks later i recieved the window sticker that was good for 5 years, no annual inspection needed!
