Like i posted in a earlier thread i have a 1950 chevy truck with the 235 motor. IM going to do the split header setup and was wanting to do the dual carb setup also. I have found an awesome deal on a offy 3 carb intake new. How hard is this going to be to setup anyone have any experiaence with this? The guy said it is for a 216-260 motor so it should work for my motor correct? I was wanting to know how much trouble it is going to be to tune them and get them right and is it just over kill?Im open to all suggestions
I have been conteplating the same thing. I hear the 3 pot intake will hit the firewall with the carbs on the pickups. You need to also make sure you have all 3 matching carbs and run the middle as primary and the others secondary. IF the guy says they fit 216/235, then make sure the carb spacing is for a 235, if not you will have to machine the manifold side of the intake bigger for the 235 opening. Not impossible, but might take a bit more work. I am sure guys here will tell you the proper way to set it up. I tried with a dual and got pissed and sold the intake and carbs. Went back to the single and am happy so far. I even thought about buying a 3 setup and only running the center and faking the outer 2. Just my 2 cents. El Guapo.
If you have Fenton headers, try the manifold & headers on a loose head before you start installing - all the late production dual manifolds need a lot of clearancing before they'll fit. The triple might have the same problem.
yea i can see, just wondering about tunning and setup, im planning on funning fenton headers or maybe a custom set of headers that i fab up.
does anyone know how much i have to shave off of the intake manifold or where i can find this information at?
Three one-barrels can make a really nice setup. For best results, use SOLID linkage, NOT progressive! If using solid linkage, ideal carbs for a 235 would be: (A) Carter 420s W-1's from 1939-1940 Chevrolet; or (B) the small Stromberg BXOV-2 units which were replacement for the 1939-1940 Chevrolet. Using progressive linkage, you will need to use (3) 235 carbs. Low end torque, low end driveability, and fuel economy will all suffer if using progressive linkage. Here is an article that will help you with setup if you use solid linkage: http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/Triple1barrels.htm Jon.
2x1 will fit, but on a 3x1 the rear carb may hit the firewall. If you go with Stromberg BXOV's let me know, I can help with your selection.
