Didn't those early Corvettes use 3 side draft carbs?

would the cam from a 261 do better or compare to a howard rough idle cam?

Pretty much all 235's are BlueFlames if they came from cars. I know, there was also the Thriftmaster version in trucks. Point is, if you want a Corvette clone, you need Corvette 3X1 intake with side draft Carters, split exhaust manifolds and a coolant tank. The closest you can get for the exhaust is Fenton headers as they are cast, but they will say Fenton on them. Good luck finding the sidedraft intake and the linkage for the Carters.

Just out of curiosity, what are you putting this into? As an FYI, 3X1 intakes don't fit that easily in a 49-54 Chevy without some possible modifications. I've attached a picture, but I think the blue is incorrect. It should be more gray in the mix.

xderelict posted this photo on another recent thread. You can find the thread by searching on 1954 Vette, but here's his photo.

Yes, 261 cam has a higher degree of lift. I believe you will also need to replace the stock valve springs if you go this route.

Figure a 235 in a '53 Styleline with PG and a single 1 barrel had 115hp with 7.5:1 compression and a '53 Corvette with PG and 3 1 barrels had 150hp with 8.0:1 compression. Granted you will get more hp from three carbs, but not a 25% increase, that 261 cam really helped out.

Well the carbs are kinda available, they are carter yh's, used in turbo corvairs and nashes and hudsons. The carb kits are still available, the corvettes didn't have electric chokes. The linkage is a pain to adjust correctly, and you have to make them sync right. The head is different on the vettes blue flame, 53 is all by itself and 54/early 55 has another. The later 54 and early 55's where the ones with the 261 solid cam, they had 155 horses compared to the others. The 54 head casting numbers at least the last 4 are 2614( frick it might have been 6214, damn dislexia) most 235's of the era had 8848. I have a good one of those off a 54 vette that has less than 500 miles on it. I swapped it out for the correct one last winter.

I got pictures around here somewhere...
