I'll let my brother's reflection from one of his essays on my website speak for me (my nickname was once Krash).

  6. 10 to 1 Wiseco piston, White Brothers exhaust rocker pressure tube, and Supertrap for my '76 Yamaha XT500 thumper. I rebuilt the engine myself at 16 years old. Dad was kinda scared of me riding that big of a bike the way I did.

When I was in high school the closest speed shop was 25 miles down the road. So my buddy and I made a shopping trip after school one day. It was like Christmas came early.

Holley 650 double pumper - mechanical secondaries
Holley aluminum intake - I forget what one
Competition Cams - they called it an economaster cam - nice lope
    Headman headers
    Accel coil
A whole bunch of Moroso shiny stuff

It all went on my 68 Camaro 327. Later additions included 202 heads, Muncie M-21, Hurst shifter, new paint, SS badges, chrome and Cragars. All the typical stuff for a late 70's long haired freak.

Would of been 1965, I ordered a 2 barrel adapter from J.C.Witney to replace a 1 barrel on my 1951 flathead 6 cylinder Plymouth. I think it cost $1.50 plus shipping. You could just feel the POWER!!!!!
I still have my Beeline Dragway trophy from the first time i ever raced it at 15 and no licence. 22.47 E.T @ 51.73 John

had to sandblast em to see anything other than rust- boy they sounded great- I ran em for a few days without mufflers, I loved it but couldnt hear my stereo.

  14. The first "new" Speed part I bought was a Hurst "Mystery" shifter (3 speed) for my 55 Chevy. It was a mystery why it was so ugly!! My first used parts were a set of Cragar mags for the same car.

600 holley with a manual choke and a used aluminum intake on my 76 chevy pick up and a set of thrush mufflers bought from Western Auto.

Unfortunately I listened to my buddy to plug the exhaust cross over on the intake because it would "make more power".

This worked great right up till the first 32 degree day, which in Ohio happens around october. Instand carb freeze up. The truck ran like shit with ice in the air bleeds.

  17. It was a mystery if my "mystery shifter" ever grabed 2nd gear without eating some syncro brass.

When I bought my 49 Fleetline in Highschool it had an old edelbrock dual intake with two 2gc's on it. Being a dumb kid, I could never keep the carbs in tune so I traded for a stock intake an single carb!

A one barrel carb to a two barrel carb adapter for my 216 chev. At the same time I eliminated the muffler and went to straight pipe(uno) all the way to the back. It wasn't pretty but woke the neighbors up when I went to work at 4 o'clock before going to school.

How about a bottle of STP? Followed by a Cherry bomb muffler.
I dearly wanted to buy an adapter to put a 2bbl on my Rambler's flathead six, but somehow I talked myself out of it, and bought a 64 Fairlane with a fire breathing 260 in it. (more like oil leaking is a better term)

In 1964 I put a Hurst 3-speed floor shifter in my '54 Chevy sedan. I cut half of the trans tunnel with tin snips so that it folded up out of the way and I could install the shifter from inside the car. (I had no jack, jack stands, nothing.) Then I cut the "flap" for clearance around the stick and folded it back down.

But that wasn't what made the otherwise completely stock Chevy fast. It didn't get fast until I put a couple of those free STP stickers that came inside Hot Rod and Car Craft magazines in the rear quarter windows.

    THEN I was fast!

  25. Carter 500 AFB and a 340 intake from a swap meet to go on the 360 in my Cordoba. Got rid of the god awful Holley 2 barrel and made it a solid 12 second car, or so I thought at the age of 16.

  26. A Sun tachometer for my 71 340 Duster.

I know you wont believe me but i bought a used Hilborn injection for a sbc for $150 in 1988 at the age 15 .With money i made mowing lawns .I polished the stacks up real nice and put it on my dresser in my room to look at.After that i bought a used set of 15x14 Mcreary slicks mounted on a 15x10 slots and had them in my room as well.My mom got pissed when she saw i had a set of Hooker chrome headers and side pipes off a Vette in my closet and put her foot down .I dont know why i bought all this stuff ,cuz the only thing i ever used were the slicks ,but i had the neatest furnished bedroom any 15 year old ever had...
