I'm doing the common '30 Model A Coupe on American Stamping '32 rails. I want to drive this car, and be as low as acceptable. what's a good rule of thumb for ground clearance at the lowest point on the frame? -jones-
Speed bumps are 4" and suspension may settle an inch when you hit one. Sidewall height on a 165/80 is 4.5" so 5" IMO.
If what your asking is: "what's the lowest point on your frame"....it would be the widest section of a '32 frame(6"), which is basically the middle section. -jones-
On my Model A several things hang lower than the Frame: Oil Pan, steering parts, ****** pan, collectors ect. Overall, I vote for 5".
This place is awesome!!! It only takes minutes to get an answer! Anyways, I was guessing aprox. 6", so that makes sense. Anyone else? -jones-
He was talking about scrub line... what is the lowest part of your ch***is? trans crossmember or suspension brackets, oil pan? I try to leave about 6-8 inches on customer cars..my own are lots lower... Jason.
The spot where the scrub lines intersect is the threshold. This question was asked yesterday, check it out http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=337195
Jason, yea, I guess I was taking about scrub line...just wanted to sound as simple as possable so everyone would understand. I did a quick mock-up today, and my frame had 8" ground clearance(scrub line) at it's lowest point. Just looked a little high to me. The problem is figuring out how to get lower in a clean way. -jones-
L.P., thanks man, I did see your post on yesterday's thread. The thread kinda started going off on a rabbit trail and didn't really address my question. I was hoping some people with '32 rails would take a tape measure out to there car and give me some numbers. -jones-
