what are you using to open your doors? I assume a door popping [IMG] kit? If so where did you get it? Thanks.

...and where is a good place to put the button to activate them (remote controlls seem a little high tech)?

Under the car where you can reach it with your toe or even under the fender well. I had a 58 Chevy truck that had it in the gap bwtween the bed cover and side of bed. You used a tooth pick or somthing small enough to get inthere and pop it.

I leave my wing window open and use the handle. So I don't have to use poppers plus it looks like alot of work.

I got a kit from Nightprowlers. I'm a gold chainer because I went with the remote [IMG]

But I have a back up cable wired through the fender into the engine compartment in case of a problem.

I did the window vent thing for about 7 months, it was no problem. I just wanted the kit. Now I sit and pop the doors open for hours at a time, I'm easily amused.

both my cars with shaved handles have electric solenoids to open with remote controls. they also have a choke cable hidden in the fender or rocker to manualy open the doors.

electric button is ok but what heppens when the battery dies or there is a problem.

on my astro van (daily) i had a hinged rear license plate behind which was a slot in the body, i inserted a card which triggered the door popper, kinda like a door in a hotel. if that's not too high tech and you wanna know where to get one, lemme know...

I used power door lock motors on my shaved doors, I do use a remote but I also have a magnetic switch hidden as a back up. I also have what I affectionately call my Frankenstien Terminals under the car in case of a dead battery.

yep on 60 impala i had the twin antennas and i used the driver side to pull the cable to pop the door, just pull up on the antenna, freaked people out,i had to make a little lever for it to sit on and spring loaded i was gonna market it but how many people use manual poppers ,haha, but it is a cool install,
you can buy the cable and sheathing at any snowmobile or bike shop i need 15 feet i think ,and came through the body and under the rocker trim and turned up into the door jamb into the door , i was proud of it, thought what a stupid idea !it has to work!!!the body is open up to the door jamb so no big deal doing it, and no worry about electric solenoid, that is what is fun ,thinking just over the edge

an no i dont have any pictures of most everything i owned the tornado in 98 took care of that for me [IMG]

I use a keyless remote from my ol BMW with a crappy Mr gasket solenoid that came in a box of parts with my truck.

What happens if the system fails (it has) or I lock my keys in the truck (I have) or if the battery dies? (it has)

Well, lets just say it doesnt take much skill to defeat other security features of this particular model....

Somebody once wrote on here "shaved handles are for show cars only!"

    Totally.

    Door poppers are evil.

If you're lucky enough *like me*, sometimes while you're doing 80mph down the highway, or turning corners, or any other inconvenient time, your may get to witness your doors just randomly popping open. It's such a thrill, it comes highly recommended if you like to live your life "on the edge" - you never know when you just might fall out of your vehicle. [IMG] [IMG] Not to mention, I'm ever so much looking forward to winter - they quit working 90% of the time when it gets anywhere under 40 degrees outside. *FUN*

Apparently the cheaper "I work at Godfather, let me hook you up kit" doesn't work. Spend the extra money - I'm sure it's worth it [IMG] [IMG]

Gotta remote. Got tired of missing the button underneath all the time. And a hidden pull wire if the battery goes. Tossed the poppers because they keep screwing up, poor quality, no one makes a good one. Solenoids release door, and the heavy weatherstripping actually pops it a good two inches.

I am running swaved doors on my wag, I've shaved about 1/2 d cars now. I use the existing push rods and have a small button on the out side of the body, My wag has oversized ones as it was the first car I shaved. U just need to check your angles of attack. In Victoria the only only way to be legal is to have mechanical doors

I shaved the handles on my Rivi . We used 50lb pull solenoids & ran it thru an alarm w/ remote. I have had it like this for about 4 years & no problems. Just stay away from Autolock parts, they don't last long.

I've got a 30lb pull on my daily and haven't had trouble because it's cold. It decides to stop working for no reason sometimes(usually when I'm leaving work) so I get my screw driver out, pop the back window lock (it's a truck) and reach in with the screw driver to pry the interior door handle. I work in a Ford business center so it's amusing to other people when I have to do this. The Chevy though, I just leave the wing window open. Don't have to worry about a dead battery or riggin anything up.

Saw something similar on Ray Bozarth's Buick full custom.
He had frenched antennae hooked to a 3 position momentary switch. Pull up, driver door opens, let go, returns to "neutral", push down passenger door opens...slick. [IMG]

  26. I used the bike cable method. I just ran cable and housing from the pull mechanism within the door and ran it to the outside of the car. Added a pinch bolt to grab onto and so it wont fall back thru. The cable is in an obvious spot to me, but to most they wouldnt even notice it. All this was stuff I found lying around my work, so it was free and only took 1 lunch break to hook up.. I never have to worry about a dead battery though..

  27. Someone on here (mai ki ki maybe?) has a plexi vent window with a small cam lock in it. No power to fail, no cable for anyone else to find, reasonalbly secure, and cheap cheap. I thought it was a cool idea.

My '49 came shaved. The buttons are under the car and you have to use your toe. Well, if you've got your "good" shoes on the toes get all dirty. If you're parked on an angle or on soft ground, it's hard to get your foot under there. Sometimes the driver's door popper doesn't push the door open enough so you have to get your fingers in there and help it.
As cool as I thought they would be, I'd trade 'em in a heart beat for a pair of those Lincoln push button latches.
    Smooth AND Classy.

    Mule,

I'd be interested in seeing your installation in more detail. Do you have any how-to photos? Even a photo of the final result with the door button would be good. Maybe you could draw up a diagram of how the button uses the existing linkage. This would be a nice TECH article!

I have a '61 Falcon Futura and am always curious about how other people have tackled problems.

    Thanks.
