1st series Truck Radiators

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by MrManz, Feb 24, 2009.

  1. I have the original radiator in my 49 gmc, and the upper and lower tank have both cracked. I dont really want to spend 700$ for it to get repaired, and to order a new one is around 500$. Does anyone know of a newer radiator that would fit in the vehicle? It has a 235 in it currently.

geez....seems like purdy much anything would fit in there - just try to keep the inlet and outlet in relatively similar locations....I used a 74 CJ5 Radiator in my last pickemup truck - it was a 58 Apache and it cooled a 454 just fine and dandy. Take your notebook and a tape measure to the salvage yard. After you measure your OWN situation of course.

  3. yea i was thinking that would be the next approach. I was being lazy and hoping that that someway somehow there would be a very close fit that i could use some of the stock screw hole. Guess its time to start cutting and welding.
