    Hello HAMBers,
I'm 14 years old and from Mumbai!
i've been browsing the HAMB for a few months and finally decided to join today
I don't have a rod or kustom yet but want to own a chopped '49 Merc, a '32 Ford roadster, '55 Chevy mild Kustom and a stock '55 or '56 Plymouth someday!

Its great to have you here and welcome aboard!!! We have quite a few members in your age bracket floating around the site and I really enjoy the fact that there are kids who want to learn about the "good ol days" of Hot Rodding and are willing to carry on the torch after us old guys are gone.

I really like your wish list of cars that you have, its almost identical to the one that I have been working off of. I am starting my 32 Roadster project this spring and hopefully be driving it by next spring.:D

So what does the old car scene look like in India? Do you have any access to cars like this there with out having to import them in from the States?

importing old cars is not allowed here :( , but it once was so there are some old american cars here, also the Dodge Kingsway and the Plymouth Savoy where manufactured here in the 50's but i've only seen 3 of them(2 plymouths and a Dodge!)
there is NO traditional hot rod & kustom scene in India! most people think customizing vintage cars is wrong, the only chopped old car i've seen is a 70's VW Bug! there are some customized cl***ic cars but most of them are modernized with a modern engine, power windows, etc, etc!

    Welcome Santaji!

Back in 1998, I spent a couple weeks in Pune and flew into Mumbai.

Knowing what I remember from that trip, you're in a prime position to start a serious hot rodding trend! You could start with a car that native to India and then progress up to something from the American era that you like. All I have to say is I hope the customs situation has changed from when I was there. I remember having to grease the hands of several customs agents to get some legal software in country. I can't imagine trying to move a car in there.

Good luck and stick around. We can all learn from each other, even from you.

Welcome to the HAMB. I never expected to see anyone from India sign up or express any interest in Hot Rods and Customs. I thought that Nads and I were the only ones with any kind of Indian connection, but "fiftyv8" has got me wondering now. :) Vance is right, you could start your own trend if you play your cards right.

Santaji mera dost, remember us hot rod guys are very ingenious and great all rounders. I learnt to read and write Hindi just for fun since I was never given the chance to learn a language at school.
    My heritage is from Scotland.

I have been to India and seen a late 30's early 40's Packard straight eight 4 door sedan being used as a VIP car for one of the Hotels in Mumbai (Bombay).
There are several English cars around such as Morris, Austins, Morgans and some woody style cars. I saw a 32 ford roadster that was found in Kathmandu and also a Checkers cab up there.

I am sure they are around, however some of the more wealthy have bought a lot of them as it is fashionable to be a collector of such western things in the southern asia region similarly thru burma, thailand and malaysia wealthy folks have grabbed all the vintage style vehicles.

Never mind all you need is a truck cab and home made frame and you are on your way. At least labour is cheap there and probably licensing is not a problem.

Nothing like a hot curry once in a while. Man I love travelling across the USA as nearly every where I stop I find Indian's running the motel, or the gas station or the local store.
Never had a problem with these folks, especially if you can talk cricket with them.

Welcome aboard Santaji and feel free to send me a PM if you are not sure about any of the chat protocols.

    Namaste, Russ.

Cool, see there are cars over there but mostly taken.
Dont worry they can not live for ever or take them with them when they p***.
With some of the skill guys have over there you could just about get a copy body made of a model A. and just import the finishing off stuff.

Start making parts and export them and knock out the chinese stuff.

Welcome kid, I was born in ****stan but my folks were born in Allahabad.
There's tons of old tin in your country, especially English stuff.
In the Indian sub-continent the way you showed you had arriived was in a big American car, that was my awakening when I was a kid.
Good luck, build anything while yer dream car comes along.

    Welcome!
Who knew there were hotrodders in India?
I do know you've got some cool scooters there!!!

  29. Welcome from the Black Hills of South Dakota. Some friends of ours here in Rapid City are from India. They own a nice restaurant and I buy some of my cooking supplies from them since they bring stuff in that the normal store wont stock. Dig a good curry!

  30. Welcome from the cold and snowy(still!) northern US. Hot rodding seems to be a universal language. That's pretty cool. Great looking pictures.
