I pulled this off a parts car with a 283 in it. It had a 327 intake on it with this air cleaner on it. I was wondering if this is a 283 or 327 air cleaner? Or is it something all together different? I plan on putting it on my 350 because I like the way it looks but if it is a factory air cleaner I would like to put the engine designation stickers on it. Any ideas?

Maybe American Moters 327. Sure not GM

  4. Doesn't look like any 283 or 327 air cleaners I remember. Most I remember have long snorkel tubes that head off at an angle.

56,57,58 Ford is what I think, but if I could think, I'd likely be elsewhere

I'm thinking it may be a 327 air cleaner, since I personally have broken off the snorkel on a couple of them, and that's what I remember they looked like afterwards. But, hey, I could be wrong? :)

It was originally black and the base is about 2" smaller in diameter than the top. Actually I think there might have been gold paint under the black that I noticed while I was media blasting it.

    Hmmmm... gold paint? Oldsmobile??

  10. It also looks like the hole where it is in relationship to the stamped "Front" word would aim the snorkel right at the oil fill tube on an older Chevy. Usually on Chevys, the snorkel is slanted more out to the side.

  11. I have a cadillac dual quad air box-batwing style and it is gold also - but oldsmobile had gold too

Oh No:eek: Someone on here has to know! This is the HAMB isnt it? I do not know a whole lot about carb sizes but it had an AFB carb on it that it fit. I know the base is too small for a Holley or edelbrock. If that is any help.......

After seeing the post replys My advice is paint it put your stickers on it and only you and I will Know. You don't need advice to enjoy what you like. that what hot rodding is about. build with what you have and you wont spend $ 150,000.00 for a real rod

I know, and Im going to run it whatever it is, but Im pretty curious and I know someone somewhere is going to ask me what its from. Who know it could be from a tractor or something and I could be blacklisted from the HAMB lol

This was found googling 1956 Ford V8 engine pictures.

You'll note the FRONT printed on the air filter housing and although the intake snorkel is different than the OP's picture, the la***ude found in 55/56/57 and the 272/292/312 or even Mercury should prove to provide an identical unit with a little searching
