I have a Limeworks SS 1-3/4 31" long steering column with a 5" drop. I also put my Sun Tach in an aluminum finned cover to match my Champion gauge cluster. Oh, I also have one Limeworks turn signals...............their products are really nice!

I have thought about using a timing chain cover and cutting it straight across just below the water pump. I haven't measured any of it, though. So, it might not be feasible.

Inspired by Limeworks, billet out of the garage:

Started as a hunk of steel - [IMG]

Roughed out with a drill press and a grinder - [IMG]

This is going into my A coupe using a early 70's GM tilt column.

  5. I got this simple column from Speedway. I made my column drop out of pieces of tubing and 1/8" plate that I bent up. The hose clamp is for the tach cup that sits to the left of the column. For turn signals, I have a hidden mini toggle switch and some relays. I machined a double clamp out of aluminum at the lower end of the column where the column slides into a piece of larger tubing that I frenched into the firewall. From the other side of the firewall, it looks like the steering column is sort of floating where it comes out of the "frenched" hole in the firewall.

Here is the one I just finished for my '37. It starts as 3/4" double D shaft that attaches to a Borgesson u-joint straight outta the box, the DD is welded inside a piece of 1" dia. tubing and ends with the stub of a VW shaft that El Polacko turned down for me. That allowed me to use a splined Grant steering wheel adapter that I had. I found a shower curtain rod at the Home Depot that was bright dipped aluminum. I slid the tight fitting rod (after some flapper wheel action on the 1" diameter tubing) the column hangs in the stock drop, but I cut out the ugly ignition switch and lock and had GreggAZ silica-bronze the two halves back together. Found a nylon bushing that fit inside the drop and in close tolerance of the column. JBwelded a stainless bell to the adapter.....works slick....so far (no real driving, just lots of spinning and peel out sounds)....

</center>this is a column support that i fabricated from a `35-`37 big truck for my roadster, it includes a self canceling turn signal mechanism from an early VW.

    That's gorgeous.
And I dig the turn signal canceler. Pretty nifty.

  16. I'm guessing the Dub signal arm goes into the threaded hole I see.

    (If there is an arm?)

Don't know much about Dubs, but always liked em....
