In both cases, the guys were saying it was the last piece they needed to make their bombas 100% competed restorations. Anyone that close to finishing a 10 plus year long project gets a little nuts, and is to be forgiven for spending in excess.

At least, that's my story and I'm stickin to it.

Right on Eric, I'm gonna see if I can make it. Is that on the 28th of February?

If so, I'll be there in the morning.

I saw the show too. When the vendor asked for $3500 I about ****ped my pants. When the guy paid $3000 I pissed myself! If that comp*** was worth that kind of money I wouldn't have even let the guy touch it in fear that he would accidentally drop it...

A friend of my dad's bought some Clock for an old Buick that had some medallion inside it for a quarter at the Springfield swap meet a few years back. He sold it for $900 a week later.

Thank you belair. You know, the coupes aren't actually Fleetlines. They are Fleetmasters or Stylemasters, depending on the chrome trim level/upgrade the customer purchased.

Just thought you would like to know.:)

Me personally, I think the visor makes the bomb.

    I saw that episode.

It just goes to show that car guys are car guys, no matter what they're into.

I had been building up a pretty big collection of accessories for my '46 Chevy but I ended up selling it all off. All of the rare stuff brought really good money, I couldn't complain. Those guys do take it very seriously, and they'll pay if you have what they need.

'42 Chevys weren't produced in big numbers anyway, and additional trinketry that you'd buy at the dealer wasn't nearly as popular as it was in the post-war years, so that stuff brings a hefty premium.

a few years back, i was actually considering buying a bomba, a 63 chevy impala that had more chrome under the car than on top! pagan candy gold and lace, at the time i just couldn't bring myself to do it, but when i think about it, now i kinda wish i did! it was drop dead gorgeous!

Are Chevy's the make of choice? Although I've been reading about them for 40 years and can understand the cultural aspect of them, i 've never seen Studes etc done in the same manner.
    I love this! Suddenly it's 1960 again!.

The Bomb guys not only treat their blood family extremely well but their "extended" car family like blood relatives as well. Perfect example, I was looking for a certain piece of chrome beltline trim for a '48 Chevy convertible, looked for seven years. I posted what I was looking for on a Chevy Bomb site and one fellow offered me the piece that he was saving for his project! I knew how hard it was going to be for him to replace it so I declined his very generous offer. I mean he didn't even know me but was willing to help me out knowing it was the very last piece of trim that I needed to finish my car. The p***ion for that last piece is strong and understandable from most of us.

The Bomb guys will always have a special place in my heart.

It's funny cuz as I was reading the first post I thought to myself those accessories aren't any big deal comapring them to the cost of Kinmont brakes or Ardun heads.....then I read you post....exact same thoughts. To tell you the truth I didn't know what Kinmont brakes were till this summer when a friend brought some at the GG Columbus event. I about choked when he told me what he paid.

Kind of funny that i happened on this thread. I'm a 67 yr. Old anglo that has fooled with different kinds of hot rods through the years and i'm from the right coast. Aboht 15 plus yrs. Ago i picked up a lowrider magazine because of a black 48 chev. Aerosedan in a feature article. The hunt was on . I looked for at least 5 yrs. And found a nice one. Now it is a combo. Of mild custom and lowrider. I ******** love it. Hot rod michelle yours is beautiful. Denise your experience proves that good car people are good car people no matter. As far as the family experience i wish my 2 sons could come close to the latino family bonding. Bombas, hot rodders, street rodders, drag cars, bonneville cars, antiques and their all good **** and we are all americans of different back grounds and cultures that love them. And thats the truth!!!!!!

I admire "Bombas" for a number of reasons: attention to detail; absolute "killer" paint jobs; extremely innovative engineering;...and most of all a devoted camaraderie to each other.

For my two cents, this idea is the plain truth and strikes at the heart of this discussion. IMO, when "car people" start to knock other "car people", we all suffer. I have a street rod buddy in Florida with a high end '32 roadster that cannot deal with what he calls "tuners": the lowered, later model Civics and Toyotas with the trash can exhausts. I feel that if you look at that "car guy" with the tricked out Civic and keep an open mind, there just isn't that much difference 'tween him and me. I'm 65 and love old Fords. He's 18 and probably cannot afford an old Ford, or has seen one too many "do not touch" signs at car "shows", has found his own interest, and is doing his own thing with his own pride and joy.

And, what about the drag racers, restorers, and sports car nuts, circle track freaks, four wheel drive guys, etc.? Are we so different? I'll bet we all spend about the same number of sleepless nights thinking about what we're going to "do" next, and dream about being noticed and thought of as someone cool. (End of rant. . .)

The guy who does my drive shafts has one in pieces. Even the parts that will never be seen are getting the smooth and paint treatment. True to the art...

I agree with the mojority of those here...while I do not care for the over the top low riders the old school bombs are the **** in my book...

That said even the over the top low low's are impressive to say the least with teh amount of engineering and detail that went in them, I appreciate the amount of work, time and money that these guys dumped into em

showing guys and gals dropping the big bucks on the tube only drives the price up i remember the good old when a regular working man could afford to build a car .parts are getting really expensive. were those parts really worth 3 grand WOW i dont think so

It takes ALOT of dedication to build a Bomb properly, I have always had MUCH respect to the lowrider guys. Their is alot to be learned by them.
And GOOZGAZ hit the nail on the head, well said!

I think it's funny as all get out to jump into my hot rod for a cruse from the "affluent suburbs" to some "central" location in a major city only to discover I'm the one driving the ghetto car! The lowriders attention to detail, paint, and interior fit and finish is incredible!

  28. Got a LOT of Bombs here round San Jose, I LOVE looking at them when we go to shows, the work is mostly exceptional quality.
