ok i got a steel body roadster/ tbucket project yesterday and i need some advice. i got a pretty cool body real solid with killer doors and a tube ch***is with a tube front axle. well my buddy gave me 2 front axles and i don't know what i should use out of the 3. the tube is like early ford style, buddy gave me 40 ford front axle with juice brakes, and 33 gmc pick up with transveres(2 springs going front to back) springs. it looks like there are more parts around for the 40 front axle, i don't really know too much about the tube axle. also he gave me a real cool set of 33 gmc wire wheels with like new www's BUT they are 6 lug i don't really know if i can adapt the 40 ford to fit the 6 lug pattern.
dont know what the spacing is on the 6 lugs, but i have seen '40 hubs filled and drilled to work with other bolt patterns
PS... transverse leaf springs go across the frame side to side. if your axle has two springs front to back that's called parallel
made a few mistakes here. the 33 is from a chevy car, and i meant parallel springs, i have a 54 chevy truck frame that has 6 lugs on it i wonder if i can swap the front hubs over?
couple things to consider. it's probably 99% chance the tube axle is dropped ford style and will accept the brakes and spindles from the 40 axle. if the 40 axle is dropped you could use that as well. I would stay away from putting a chevy front axle in a ford roadster.
well i'm gonna use the 40 cuz i can get the parts for it pretty cheap, it's not a drop but it's ok it was free.
