Its a little off topic yes. BUT Me and the Wifie are actually takin a vacation...first one as a married couple (we've been married 8 years so its kinda a late honeymoon). We're slated to fly into Frankfurt germany on April the 7th hang out for a few days, take in the sights (gonna stop by the porsche factory) and roll on down the road/rail through Austria and into Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice possibly and La Spezia area possibly) we're still working on hotels and such like that (already got the flights and some rail passes and a few hotel reservations...still gotta fill in holes) Slated for return on the 23rd. I'd like to run into some car events if possible, wifie doesnt have a problem with it so GREEN LIGHT! Automotive related stuff in europe is a little un-advertised (or I'm not looking in the right place) SO you EU HAMBers...help a brother out....pointers, tips etc humbly accepted...even if it isnt car related (IE hotels, good places to stay, things to do etc) pile em on... Last time I was in Europe I was controled by the good ol US military and didnt have the capability and freedom that I'm gonna have here and everything was already pretty much planned for ya so I'm a little at a loss... Heck even if its a relay of a hard to find part that I can get into the country for ya I'll do it!
Hey, Brother , as far as accommodations............If you are doing mostly rail travel, utilize the Tourist Info booths in the Bahnhof, (in Germany), and elsewhere in Europe........The wife and I did the same in Germany ,Switzerland, Austria, France, and Spain............................We used the travel books by Rick Steves as a guideline for lodging, hostels, hostals, restaurants, etc.......Mainly as pricing guides, and recommendations on cleanliness, locations in relationship to sights we wished to visit, etc..... My advice........... Don't pack too much, and yes, we went when the weather was cooling off .......We each carried a backpack and one sports type bag between us........If you're gonna' be mobile, you gotta' tote all your stuff!!!!! Have a LARGE time !!!!!!!!We are going back to Spain in September, I LOVE that place, and the people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
New Porsche museum just opened in Stuttgart and while your there (a mile or so from me) you should check out the Mercedes museum too. Lots of lovely old engineering on display.
Have a great time, but remove this post. You have just told everyone who visits here that you will be gone for 15 days and you even gave them the dates. Dennis
Yeah, but his bad ass mafia connected brother is staying at the house to feed and water his pack of pit bulls.
That's great but it still not good to advertise on a open forum that you'll be gone from home for ? days, Starting on ?-?-2009 till ?-?-2009. I've seen too many people get ripped off by stating that they will be gone. A member of our car club was talking about his upcomming trip at a car show, and by the time he got home his house & garage were cleaned out & his vehicles vandalized. I just don't want that to happen to anyone here. Dennis
Thanks for the concern, but I aint too worried bout it... You see I do have a bad ass mafia thats gonna be livin at my house for the entire time... The Jacksonville Sheriffs Office...I gotta buddy thats goin through a transition of sorts (road dog, I ride with him on the streets) and he's goin through a divorce...pretty nasty one as a matter of fact and has been takin up temporary residence at my home till he can get back on his feet. SO you're more than welcome to swing on by, but...will warn ya, he's kinda mean and a really good shot... We tend to take care of each other....
I swear I haven't bugged your place but when you read what I wrote did you say to yourself..."WTF, how in the world did she know???" NOW, back to our regularly scheduled European adventure.
A good "day trip" from Frankfurt is Heidelberg. It takes about 45min to get there by car (and yes there is some autobahn time on the way). It has some bitchen castles and churches to visit. It does capture the european "village" charm that the big city's dont have. It was always a nice stress relief after a tour in Bosnia.
I am Jealous. I did Austria in May and Nurnberg in Nov but i would go back in a second right now. Technical Museum in Munich (Munchen) is wonderful.(Deutsches Museum) It is just a few blocks walk down hill from the Hilton. Has a whole section devoted to early engines of all types. Nurnberg I liked very much . Stayed at the Wordesee Hotel. There is a Transportation Museum there. The German trains are awesome. Oliver Zinn has the Mopar shop in near Dusseldorf. (Search Moparshop.de.) Always something going on there. I think they have over a 800 member club so I have been told. One should see some of the Schwabenland too i think. It was 300 years ago May 8th 1709 my ancestor Johan Adam Dolmetsch left Germany for Ireland. I love going back. Have a great trip. I hope to be there again a month behind you. Gute Reise Don
Sweet!!! thats the kinda info I'm lookin for..... Anything else from our German and Austrian Brothers? (Do we have any Italian guys on the board.....I aint bein a smartass I just remember seein guys and gals from everywhere BUT Italy) Where is Bluto residing? If I was around and he wouldnt mind I wouldnt mind stopping by and sayin hey....(I aint inviting myself, all you gots to do is tell me to piss off and I will....I know my role) Yeah in between of Troy and the other SWAT/Task Force guys that hang out, then the other three cops that live within a 5 house radius....it's a pretty secure neighborhood. (We didnt plan it that way...just kinda happened) We keep it quiet and clean and keep the riff raff out and the neighbors love us...
