Here is a design I came up with for my headlight mounts on my current project. I need 2 of these cut out of 1/4" plate steel. I really don't have the tooling to make these. I'm not sure where to turn to to get these produced? I only need 2 so I am hoping it won't be real expensive:D. Anyone on here have any ideas??

The high school I went to had a cnc plasma table that I used to cut some 1/4" brackets for my car a couple years ago. I'm friends with the shop guys there, I could probably swing in there and get those cut over my spring break, which starts March 13. Let me know if no one else can get those cut and I'll make sure you get them.

i would think any GOOD speed shop could do that . actually , a plasma cutter & a drill press , you might try them yourself . if aluminum use a good jig saw . hand held grinders & files will clean them up .... just a thought ................ steve

  5. you should look for someone who could lazer cut it,or maybe water jet,for a sharp edge.... plasma kinda leaves a curved edge

if i had to make it , it would be cut out in a bandsaw after first drilling the holes with drill bits and hole saws

We may able to laser them, I see the smallest hole is .250 which is the material thinkness which SHOULD be ok, I'll talk to a few guys and see what we can do.

PM Cadillaccoffin on here...(or e-mail him)

I'm using him to laser some grille bars for my Caddy and he is damn good...and not terribly expensive... and he'll work with you...

I'm taking the holes are just for looks and not functional, were a three place dec just adds to the price .000 + or - .005 were 2 place .00 would be + or - .015 for it to be produced just a FYI. If I were going to make them. Yep waterjet but $$$ lazer $$$ plazma $$ a bandsaw $ would be cost efficient. If you don't have a bandsaw a Jigsaw or sabersaw would do it. Drill the holes on a drill press or with a hand drill. Just drill the holes in a raw form when it in a square chunk. This way it's easy to hold and safer.
A few guys will water cut goodies but have a minimum setup. You can get a sabersaw for the cost of the parts made and have a tool for life:D

I probably need them done on a water jet or laser to match the other parts on the truck.

Just for ****s and grins what does such a part cost to have made? I ask because we do production parts ( 100 to millions) and the cost for one or two parts is in the set-up .
    thanks

I would look into making those holes a standard size. Drilling a .500 hole is easy. .506 is extra work and money. .989 is only .011 smaller than a standard one inch or .005 larger than 63/64. same deal in time and money for the other holes.

  22. I love technical prints, forgive me; but if these are just headlight stand...then I think the tech print is just a bit overkill....as to the fact you probly could've cut & drilled these out to your own liking within less time than it took to look up and place all the symbols in the print. 23. I think you need the outside radius and the centerline(s) for the radii.

I have 4 CNC mills and 6 CNC lathes at work and make parts like these for my home business all the time. I can profile and drill these in a snap and they will be perfect. Keep that in mind in the future.. You can drop me a e-mail if you have future needs..

I think you'll find that a lot of people on this board tend to read the headline...and the first post, then immediately type their post before reading all the rest (besides, reading all the other posts is like way too much work...!!!) and they miss seeing the "I-got-it-done" post...
