Hot Rods Congratulate me... First drive on the streets

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 4t64rd, Feb 24, 2009.

  1. I am planning on coming up March 7th, be prepared for my weirdness.

I tried to do it all myself, but after a while (10 years for me), you realize that it just can't all be done by one person... Probably could have gotten this done quicker if I wasn't so bent on wanting to say "I built it all myself", but I didn't, I had help... The Poor Boys mostly, I asked them to badger me, and they struck a balance that kept my fragile little ego from saying "F%# off" and encouraged me, and I appreciate it... a lot, especially the Barn Breakfast, which was a kick start and an eye opener. It's not over, bodywork and interior is still on the to do list.:D crack the whip!

Here's a list of what I didn't do myself, forgive me if I'm forgetting something or someone.

    1. Poor Boy John (Wyle E. Coyote) - Rear brake lines (Barn Breakfast), carb rebuilding tweaks, steering box rebuild, sandblaster use, battery bearing checks after Chevy 2 pump rod debacle and LOTS of phone calls for advice.

    2. Poor Boy Glenn (AHotRod) - Fuel pump supplier and installer, sending unit, and fuel lines (Barn Breakfast), Gast tank heat shield and supplier of MANY parts and LOTS of advice.

    3. Poor Boy Dave (Roosters Hot Rods) - Exhaust, rear brake drums turned, LOTS of advice

    4. Poor Boy Lil Mike (Hot Rod Mike) starter, Fuel pump install, Willie, Brian (SoberToolGuy) Gas tank heat shield, fuel pump, Myron(?) and Skip (Skip-O-Matic) Oil pans - Everybody here was at my Barn Breakfast and gave help & advice

    5. Jeff Detwiler (16 y.o. kid who I was teaching to weld) - Dashboard alterations and cleaning engine prior to paint.

    6. Greg Rakowski (Fat Hack) - Engine compartment wiring

    7. Jon Phillips (DV8), Tim M. (MBL) and Ralph - (Barn Breakfast) front brake lines, phone calls

    7. Bob from Bob's Hot Rod - Welded in engine mounts about 12 year ago

    8. Joe and Bradley Funkhouser - Transmission linkage and help with lots of other little stuff, keeping my landlord (Joe's dad, Bradleys G'pa) off me when I am late on the rent, Help during Barn Breakfast

    9. Chad Fisher (Cfish1950) - Wheel balancing

    10. Don "One Eye" Steuernagle - Wishbone splitting procedures and encouragement.

    11. Dad - Machining things when called on and Barn Breakfast.

Edited, Glenn reminded me a few more thing besides the heat shield that other did...

  17. Like Churchill said "Never, never give up". It is a great feeling that first cruise in your baby.
    Kudos.

  18. Well done Poor Boy! The maiden voyage makes every frustration and set back worth it and compells one to drive the friggin wheels off it. -Glad to see another poor boy tearing up the highways of sunny Florida.

  20. I didn't think Tim would want me to mention that he helped me, he's got a rep, dontcha know, and I'm a dork. :D... I had him in the first iteration of that post, but took him out. And I fixed you name (BTW, my middle name is "John" but it's spelled correctly. :p)

And I also forgot Ralph's son's name... Shane or Sean or something like that... I can describe his truck in great detail though... I'm bad with names.

  21. CONGRATS!!! There is no better feeling in the world. I've had 5 first drives and each time it's brand new all over again. Keep it going!

It wasn't Ralph's son...just a kid he was helping out, and trying to teach how to build a hot rod...er...rat rod I guess. Travis.

By the way....I think he stopped coming around once his truck was done!

  23. I see Dave in that picture, doing somethong back in the corner... There are no tools back in that corner, I wonder what he was doing there? Dave?
