the term is here to stay people. it doesn't really even have a specific meaning so how can a person get all pissed if someone says it?

To me Rat Rod is ok........I can see where traditional and rat rod get lumped together sometimes. What I don't like is all the hokey **** that some put on them just to make them look outrageous and bring the wrong kind of attention to them. That is where the term "rat rod" becomes a bad thing. And yes, safety is important. I have seen some bad *** "rat rods" before, that you could call traditional but the owner calls them rat rods. It is just a phrase that people use. Nothing more.....

Thxz for standing up for me guys. But i do see where they are coming form and everyone has a certant p***ion about cars, some deeper than others in areas. The reason why i said rat rod noob, is cuz well, i am a noob to the old cars, and a rat rod to me is that old car that you put every drop of sweat and blood that you have including everylast penny. To me its been chopped, channled, rebuild. but instead of buying paint you put all your money into cool tires, a big blower, chrome this and chrome that, always perfecting that thing of p***ion, no matter what car it is or what era it comes from. I'm just glad that i found this site, cuz befor i found it i was gonna drop the whole project.

Being a new to the HAMB as my self.Do what i was taught for years working around old timers . keep quiet and pay attention help when asked any you will unlock the door to unlimited knowledge . o by the way lose the avatar !

 

You will do fine. Just call your car a work in progress, and work to finish it to your vision. It will be a fine machine, just steadily push it toward a nice finished car. It takes time. The term Rat Rod around here raises ire, if its a Hot Rod in progress it isn't a rat rod. A rat rod is something that someone purposefully makes look like a dog turd and drive like a unicycle. You don't sound like that kind of guy to me.

So you are a Hot Rod Newbie. Enjoy, ask questions. You'll get razzed, if you have thick skin you can laugh too, thin skinned folks don't stick around. Its fun here.

BTW, just got done helping do the computer part of the tune a turbo Civic a couple of weeks ago, 420 hp at the wrong wheels. Its a little monster, I hope the owner doesn't kill himself with it. Last week I rebuilt the carb and tuned the governor on a '39 9N Ford tractor to make it run like new again.

As for the body it looks like a good start. Check the aliance venders. I know vaphead is a vender and sells new 32 rails, boxing plates, and most everything you might need for suspension. And he offers a good discount if you are an alliance member. And the membership will more than pay for itself. I ***ume your car will be fenderless since you have none. And when you start your build do***ent everything with pictures. We like pictures. here is what I started with...ghost
