I was talking to Matt (Fatford) who said there is a guy who makes skirts, might be located in Hagerstown, IN, and he has advertised in Hemmings. Anyone have his contact info by chance?
Thx rod, I've heard of this guy who makes skirts from templates, and I'm wanting to see if he can make me a set of semi-custom Merc skirts. I want a pair that don't have that flare on them, and go straight across at the bottom.
I don't know anybody in Hagerstown who MAKES 'em but there was a kat named Brockman that sells (used to anyway, I haven't been there for a while) old auto accessories. Used to have a website....try Google-ing "Brockman Mellowtone". Maybe who you're looking for....or maybe he was in Cambridge City.
This guy http://brockmancustomparts.com/page1.html He and his wife are super nice. If you don't find it there....maybe he would know who you're talking about. Tell him the White Brothers in Richmond sent ya!!
Ther's a guy just west of Richmond (not far from Hagerstown) who used to have his own business known as "Hoosier Hoods". I've lost track of his name but I think he still does some custom sheet metal work even though the shingle has been taken down. Maybe somebody else will remember the name.
or.... you could contact Tom Culbertson of Culbertsons Rod and Custom Creator of the El Tiki show rod and many others.... the man is a metal genious{sp*} seen him make jsut about anything shop info...Culbertsons Rod and Custom 1815 S Lynhurst Dr Indianapolis IND 46241 317 244 8271 just another option...plus hes a lil closer too
Thanks Steve. I don't know why I can't remember (or keep track of) George's name. As I recall he was a pretty slick metalsmith. I've got his running boards (extra wide at back) on my coupe. His phone number is 765-962-7924
Wouldn't it be easier to modify your current skirts? Seems like it wouldn't be that hard to cut the bottom lip part off and make an extension out of sheetmetal to reach to the bottom of the quarters. Unless your skirts are glass.
Before I would cut up '51 skirts, look for '49 or '50's and modify them. They are not worth as much and I would think that it would be fairly easy to straighten out the bottom edge. (The '49 and '50 do not have the flair on the bottom edge) Neal
