I am interseted doing a couple of engine turned panels and saw some tech stuff by C-9 which is always good. But, I couldn't find too many pic's, can you show us what you have and the different patterns you have created?
this is a `32 panel that i recently restored with the original pattern. this link will take you to a web site where you can generate just about any grid pattern you desire.Free Online Graph Paper / Asymmetric

awesome thread, Im getting ready to do my firewall and guage panel on monday. I just went this morning to buy the cratex stick!
It's actually a decal over a piece of laser cut stainless. It was advertised as being used to restore dashes of early 60s Impalas.
Here's a couple shots of mine. Made the panels out of an old road sign. Used a wood dowl with valve lapping compound on a bridgeport. Man, I need a new camera.
I have been working on this for the last 2 weeks in my metal shop cl***. It ****s because Im doing my whole firewall so it takes a lot of time and we only meet mondays 630-930. I used the 3/4" cratex stick on the Mill. I am overlapping it 0.4" which is close to half of .75 Its easier to do the math this way with a round number if you are doing it by hand like i am. You can be off by .010 or so and its not even noticable. I got about 5 hours in it so far and Im about 60% done. ill post a pic when its done. looks good so far. A word of advice, just leave yourself enough time to do it in one sitting or if not, then hopefully you can leave it set up and pick up where you left off. oh, and it helps to clean the cratex stick every so often, i used a little piece of sandpaper
how could this be done on a piece too big and bulky to put in a drill press? ive got a vision..but i dont know how to bring it to life. maybe i would just have to make some panels to go where i need them eh?
Here's mine: And a little bit on how I did it is here: http://home1.gte.net/wgmumaw/Dash/instrumentpanel.htm
yeah, you could mark it with a pencil and do it by hand. It will give it that hand made look if thats what you are going for.. just figure out your grid and start drilling
Here's one i made for my interpertation of the early spencer roadster, i know the gauges arn't right. How sweet it is to have a CNC bridgeport. 1/2" cratex 1/4" spacing second row 1/4" down shifted 1/8" and so on and on and on. i also cut out all the gauge holes on the mill. John
I stole these photos away from 3 Deuces ... 32 sedan progress post. Not only did Buster engine turn the pieces ... he had the dash mount cast in aluminum and machined it also. CUSTOM ... one off piece
