Traditional 28 w/ RED RAM HEMI new build

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Traditions Racing, Feb 20, 2009.

  1. Found a super solid 28 Tudor to build, want to share with fellow H.A.M.B. erz. Always open to feedback, suggestions and questions. Will get the 270 Dodge Super Red-Ram 270 Hemi I have here, and then the Camaro T5 will go behind that, ending up with the 55 Chevy rear thats in the car now. Hope to do something diffrent, she will be fenderless, but no chop, no channel, but yet a respected stance. Ladder bar rear and 4 bar in front, at least for now, could change at any time. Will post new pics as I progress with build, hope everyone enjoys the build, I know I will, thanks for looking.

Welcome. You may want to consider some bones up front, rather than a 4 bar. Looking foward to your build thread pics.

  3. Thanks blackout, as soon as I got her off the trailer, I said the same thing to myself, that 4 bar set-up just aint cuttin it, appreciate the feedback!!

No, nada, ix-nay, negative on the 4 bar idea, split "bones" or hairpins are the way to go!( everything else you plan is right on the money.) Good luck with you're build.:)

Have you figured out how to adapt that Chevy T-5 ****** to the Dodge 270 yet? I am also planning to put a 270 hemi in one of my projects down the road, and would be interested in a 5 speed ****** too if it is a reasonable proposition.

Interesting front wheels? Any idea what they are?

  9. Thanks everyone, just in case I was not clear, yes those first pics were right off the delivery trailer, and everyone is right, the 4 bars are going. Will be posting the wedding of the Red-Ram to the T5, and some specifics about the process, hope to save some other builders some h***le if they wanna do a similiar adaption. Here in sunny Fla, if your rig wont run 80 on the interstate, your gonna get run over, or worse. Any ones guess on the front wheels, they are unique and I have not a clue what or where there from, thanks everyone, have a safe weekend!!

Looks like it was running Rod that someone stripped for a rebuild . With fenders ,will it matter if you keep the 4 bars?. If i were running at 80+ in traffic with cross winds etc in a boxy Ford I think decent suspension is going to be top of the list rather than wishbones just for the sake of looks etc. Just a thought. :)

  11. Thanks Dirtynails, dont really know the history, looks more like they ran out of cash or realized they were in over thier heads, I will be listing fenders and running boards in parts for sale real soon, your right about suspension, I actually like the adjustability of the 4 sticks, just not the look on a fenderless rig, I'm working on designing a split-bones type front with some adjustability at the axle, see if I can pull it off.

Seem to remember Wilcap making the adapter you need, should be straight forward.

I too am doing a T-5 behind a 270, I'm taking pics as I go and will put it on here when I get more progress done. Mine is pretty simple though as I'm using a truck bellhousing so all I have to do is mate it to the T-5.

I used two adapters to put a Chevy trans behind my 241. I used a Cragar 401 which is hemi to flathead trans adapter and then bolted on a flathead to chevy trans adapter. This allows me to use the Ford clutch linkage. The chevy linkage gets difficult fast with the bellcrank and all. My set up has worked flawlessly for many years

I agree. They are jag. My dad ran them on a 30 Model a 4 door built in 78'. He had a XJ rear end in it.

Here is my project with a 241" Red Ram Hemi and a T-5 ******. The kit is a HotHeads hemi to Chevy stick adapter. The t-5 shares the same diameter front pump as the 4 spd. ***uring alignment but the bolt holes are off by a 1/4 bolt on all 4 holes. I redrilled the holes and nut & bolted the ****** to bellhousing. I may get an aluminum bellhousing and weld the holes up and drill and tap new holes.
Any input on which method would be better?

I guess the HH adapter lets you put the starter on either side, you choose? Why would you want it on the drivers side? I also need to adapt but needing a "cheaper" way to do it than HH or Wilcap adapters.............

  21. Sorry guy's every time I try to answer, I get re-directed, have to sign in again, and I lose what I have typed. Dont know what is wrong.

  22. Thanks 53, Wilcap is great, I get mine from the guys at Hot Hemi Heads, save on shipping from Calif. too!!

  23. Looks like you guy's nailed the "mystery wheels", ride-on, anyone want em?

  24. Moto, NICE rig you got growing there!!! NO-CHOP, I can dig it!!,

  25. Kirk, I use the 82-93 F body, Camaro 305 V8 Aluminum bell, no issues, no machining, looks like you have that covered anyway with that mill in the backround, got a xtra set of keys for the shop?

  26. The only reason I know to put starter on drive side is for purists who want to run the old style canister oil filter, I have been building an dyno testing engines for over 30 years, I convert to full flow spin on filters, just dont forget to upgrade the by-p*** in the block under the rear main cap. 53 so true about the dogs brother, both our bullies are rescues, couldn't imagine a day without them, AMEN
