Trying to figure out what kind of mirror I wanna use in my 28. Was thinking dsah mount, but I think with the rake it will be of little use. Maybe hang one off the side of the car, any ideas???

I've used post mounted mirrors for right and left sides. The first set were from some unknown source converted from clamp-on to threaded. Once the chrome got too brown I went searching for replacements. I got two for $10 from a closeout bin at the motorcyle shop. They came threaded for "late" bike handlebar mount. The ones for Jap bikes are usually 10 mm threads.
I first used a supposedly stock style inside mirror which mounted over the top of the windshield frame. It changed vibrating frequency with the engine revs. It was very annoying. I changed to a small gl*** mounted mirror from a Vega or Monza. It is a day/night mirror which is a plus. It is quite small and black so it doesn't shout "LATE MODEL".

  4. Mirrors, I don't need no friggin mirrors, I am an owl. Hey all kidding aside, I have seen a unit that clamps over the top of the windshield. I can't remember where, but you might try Speedway, they usually have most of that stuff.

Just before Total Performance was taken over by Speedway, I ordered a set of neat 3"dia. staight arm screw in mirrors for my roadster. Well, I never did get them and Speedway does not sell them. Anyone know of who might have them as I can't find them anywhere. HELP!

Went with spun aluminum British sports car mirrors as they matched the aluminum sprint car steering wheel.

They are most likely stock 28-31 Open Car Post mirrors, usually sold as A-17700-P or maybe the B-17700-P which fits 32 open cars.

I like hinge pin mirrors 'cause I don't want to make holes in my body, and it is a nice clean mount. Since you are a Ford guy you can probably get ones that fit your hinges.

Since mine's not a Ford I'm working on adapting VW hinge pin mounts. VW made several versions and shapes that could look good on an old car.

We used 2 new 35-36 Ford Pickup taillamp brackets on the Track Roadster. The spacing of the mounting bolts matched the holes in the T windshield frame and after cutting off the extra eye on the bracket for the taillamp we had a nice clean bracket to mount out 4" round mirror heads.

I took a set of mirrors off a Honda Mo-Ped, threaded the shafts, drilled and tapped my W/S posts and screwed them in.

Mine mount on some small aero tubing that I made to both hold the mirrors but also hold in the wind shield sections.

I used a Harley Davidson (1972) for drivers side, made my own 3/8 round stock arm, heat & bent it on desired angle, threaded one end to screw into windshield frame, & had it chromed, use a 3/8 lock nut & washer.
For rear view windshield, have local gl*** shop glue mounting part to desired area in top center, mount mirror of choice.

  16. Cut down Harley mirrors on both my roadsters.
J&P Cycles sells these, good quality and a good outfit to deal with.

The Harley mirrors work quite well and beat the resto-style 32 mirrors all to heck and gone in the useful dept.

Plus, you can find Harley mirrors almost anywhere . . . you may be able to find a pair of "take-offs" from a Harley rider who sprung for a different pair for his bike.

Hacksaw, file and die will do it for setting these up.
Make sure you run the die on straight, easy to get them canted and then the threads don't look or work right.

This is the wrong Harley mirror -they have lots of different styles.
It could work for some, but didn't look right on my 31.
Shown here due to the different mount right on the 31's "A" windshield stanchion and replaces one of the mounting bolts.
I have 32 windshield posts on the 31, but like the stanchion mounting on this car better.

The door does miss the mirror by a good amount.

Left side, good view, good quality gl***.

    Right side 32

    Not too obtrusve.

Mirror screws into the threaded 32 posts.

Here's the same mirror on my pal's 29.
