I think I've lost my mind.

Went to look at new cars today as my wife's car is getting tired and then she tells me that she wants an older car fixed up :D.

(she supports almost 40 vehicles in inventory) I know true love:D

She then proceeds to pick out a 56 Buick wagon that I have and tells me to fix it instead of a new car.

Then she explains to me that we can put the monthly pament into it and improve its " comforts/ conveniences" etc

Did someone slip something in my drink today or am I a lucky MoFo??

    Never mind, Don't answer that...

My mind is spinning out of bounds, got to strike while the iron is hot.

Its a big project but I have a 69 electra 225 runner that could be the mechanical donor. !?

What advice (opinion) do you have...? :D

what advice?...well, first off, get to work and get her that car asap before she changes her mind or starts shopping around for "other cars".

She's a keeper! Much smarter investment ,comparing the value of the two ten years down the road. At least that's the excuse I use to myself.

My girl would like a 1950's Morrie Minor if I soup it up a bit and fit aircon to it for her....

They are still out there fellas, like old iron, you've just got to look for them. (I 'found' mine 30 years ago this month)

    Cheers, Glen.

My wife of 20+ years said the same thing a few years ago. I was psyched and ran out and got her the car of her choice. Coincidentally a '56 Buick, (just a 2 door). She wanted the "Gasser" style. I got a '79 El Camino for the donor mechanicals and did it up right. A/C, new everything. She indeed was a happy woman!

Sorry to say 3 years later she finally had her fill of the Ol' Buick. Now a shiney new red Ford Flex is in the driveway.

It never broke down, caused any troubles or left her anywhere. (They were her main requirements.) It was the leaky windows, door gaskets, poor visibility in the rain, can't hear the radio over the "Cherry Bombs" Don't go real good in the snow, don't turn really that good, 3 wiggles and a quick jerk while standing on one foot, to get the trunk or doors un locked. the extra hour it took to get in or out of a parking spot 'cause some one wanted to know, "What kind of times does it turn? Or My mom had one just like it" That did her in.

It'll either get sold or be kept around for the nice occasional summer cruise. Somedays I can't say that I blame her when it's elow zero and I'm sitting on them nice heated leather seats with the all wheel drive dragging me up the road.

I can however save you a lot of time and money. I have a nice '56 Buick all ready to hit the road:) Complete with "Dragin' Lady" lettering.

If I know anything about women and cars (I don't, but I've had the same wife for 25 years..) she'll want power steering and air (as suggested), and some good brakes. Other than that, women tend to be more irritated by small stuff that 'you' could live with - so windows (power or not) have to work smoothly, trunk has to be tidy and easy to open/shut - as a new car alternative she won't wanna put up with any 'temporary' fixes - no door locks that require a special technique to unlock, no ignition switches that need a little jiggle to connect, no trannies that come with a 'you gotta hold it in second' warnings...it's gotta start, stop, turn, and ride well.
Basically, all the stuff that a trad HAMB car eschews has gotta done, and the stuff we get interested in (period-correct parts etc) are probably not so important.
Oh, and it'd better be done and finished quick to keep her interested and off the new car lots.

My wife is up for a new car as well.I asked her the other day what she was thinking this time for a new one.Im expecting something like Durango,or some other crap .I was amazed when she said she wanted an old car this time.I told her fine ,but i get a say inthe one she gets since im the one whos gunna be keeping it running and making improvements for her.Plus its gunna be something i like as well (and theres not much pre 60 that i dont like).I have been looking for a 55-60 Chevy wagon for her and when the right one comes along ,its hers. 5 years ago i couldnt even get her to drive my old junk.I think its a hormone change or something.I dont care why ,but im glad she came around to my way of thinking on something for once .I dont know whats up ...

When my wife told me at a car show that she liked a shoebox ford, I almost shit myself. (she drives a '06 Honda Civic). It happens, but not very often, enjoy it.
