I got a standard 4" Merc Flathead crank and a set of complete Guide 682C's from a guy who was gonna throw it all away. I damn near drove the tires off my pickup getting the stuff home and into my garage. Probably won't get lucky like that again.

A 1936 Hudson Terraplane 2door sedan less engine and trans, sold it for $350 in 1972. 6 months later found it in the city dump, called the guy, said his wife hated it so he "junked" it. When something goes in the city dump in Mobile, it doesn't leave.

I got this last week for free. I'll sell it for a couple hundred and buy something useful with the $$ :)

The owner called me up and asked me if I liked MG's. I didn't want to hurt his feelings so I said Yeah, sure. That's when he said that he had one I could have for free if I come get it.

1940 Pontiac Coupe along with 2 NOS fenders and all the trim. Was an old drag car at one time. Had a late 50's Olds diff. in it but the 389 Pontiac motor was already gone along with the trans. Sold the rolling body for $350 and the pair of NOS fenders for $450 back in 85.

1974 Lincoln Continental Executive Limousine by Moloney Coachbuilders, Inc. Last in service in 1986. It was being stored in a dirt floor building; the guy in charge of it wanted to pour a concrete floor in it, and needed the car out of there. Told me I could have it if I got it out of there. Cleaned it up and sold it for a thousand bucks to a guy in New York State (wish I kept her, though....).

Got a second hand freebie through a good friend, even got to use his trailer to haul it off. A guy had a 53 ford two door in his back yard for way too long. His wife wanted it gone now. Hauled it home, tore into it and shoveled out some trash. Had a flattie bellhousing & flywheel in the trunk. sold them at a swap meet for $50 and spotted a women in the neighborhood driving a 54 four door. She jumped at the 53 for $200. All of this came & went in about five days.

  15. Got a fair amount of stuff on my '38 Ford pickup free. My brother in law gave me the 307 Chevy engine out of a '68 GMC pickup with only 30,000 miles but truck was rusted to pieces. Front crossmember, '68 Chevelle steering box. '36 Ford bug eye headlight lenses, a set of '36 hubcaps (like them a lot better than the '38 caps), a good set of stereo speakers still in the box. Those are some that come to mind immediately. I'll probably think of more later.

Got a rear window from an early 60's Chrysler through CL. A quick polish and placed it on a small end table.

Makes for an elegant and dangerous coffee table.

I've given away LOTS of stuff, but the only thing I ever got for free, was a Briggs and Stratton 2 1/4 H.P. cast iron engine. My cousin took it off his gold mining slush (sp?) box to put on my go-cart; the thing that really started me in this "hobbie" (more like life style). Now, if a thread gets started about all the stuff we've given AWAY that we regreted, I'd be close to the top of the list. Just got a new computer, and I'm about ready to give this keyboard away; the keys are too short, with too little taper. It causes me to make too many mistakes I have to correct. Or, maybe it's just my fat fingers. Butch/56sedandelivery.

A friend recently gave me his stock parts off of a 2004 GTO because he was moving. I sold them on Ebay for $400 plus. When our car club went to dinner Saturday night I picked up the entire check, even all the margaritas LOL.

  25. I ain't ever got shit free. The closest I ever got was a car lot swapped me a tri-power set up for my '66 GTO for my 4bbl. Oh, my son gave me tickets to the Gator Nationals this year. Does that count?
