Okay, I don't do much posting on here, mainly I read other posts to get ideas and see what every one else is working on. I just sold my 1949 Chevy Gasser project to a fellow HAMBer. If any one has read the post will know why I sold it. Anyways I just got a call from my old man up in Portland Oregon. And he knows I am headed off to Iraq again soon but he had to tell me about a close family friend who is a big time gear head and has been all of his life. I have known him all of my life now and my dad and him have always had some really cool cars. Sometimes more then they knew what to do with but thats the fun in it. Anyways this close family friend has had a 1940 Chevy Master 85 2dr Sedan for the past 25 years. I remember when he first got it and drug it home. Now it wasn't a bad car then, and he did a little bit of work on it to improve the looks of the car and the drivability. However after a year or so of bombin around in it he moved on to other projects and moved this car to the back of his garage. Eventually it made its way out to a dry barn up in Oregon and there it has sat for the past 25 years. So I get this call, like I said from my old man telling me he is looking to sell it with all of the extra parts he has collected for it over the year (fenders, hood, door, grill), not that it needed any of that he just like to collect parts. And a 261 straight six to go along with the deal. Long story short, I said, "I'll buy it!" I feel I am getting a damned good deal on this considering it still runs as he went out to fire it nearly every month, it just need brake work and cleaned up. Oh and the really cool part he is going to hold it for me until I get back from Iraq. So if any one has any pics of this type of car I would really love to see some different styles. I am looking to keep it mostly stock and just continue to improve the drivabilty and relaibility of the old girl. So please post your ideas and your pics
Here is my Master Deluxe The master 85 has the same trim. The 85 had a straight axle with transverse leaf springs. Nice hotrod front end. Reverse the spring eyes, and maybe you can find someone to drop the axle. Mine has a camaro front end. Hope yours works out, they are nice cars.... Jeff
I like 40 chev's. I bought a '40 master 85 sedan when I was 14 (i'm 44 now). I had seen the car in a junkyard when I was about 8, It was black with red and black tuck and roll seat covers. It was an early mild hot rod. Another junkyard bought it, hacked a 350/350 into it, hacked in a 53 chev front end and a 56 rear end, put it in grey primer with a new set of Keystones...ooooooh. and I came along and bought it with $1500 of lawn mower money. I sold the keystones and went to rallyes, fixed the motor mounts and front end installation, had the neighbor spray it in the the driveway in metallic red, sewed up a new interior, re-did the top end of the motor, and ran the car hard once I got my license against all the other guys with Camaros, Firebirds, Novas, Monte Carlos etc. That was a fun time.. Anyway enough of that..It will be a great mental diversion for you while in Iraq to plan how you want to build the car when you return. Good luck and thanks for serving.
I have a whole CD of 4-door 40's that I enmassed when I was building mine. I too have a soft spot for the '40. Last year for the real running boards, 2nd year for the knee-action suspension. Here are a few pics of my cars http://rides.webshots.com/album/560484764CwgeTT?start=12
Had a 41 myself that two little old ladies used to visit friends in the cemetary up till I got it. They bumped into a tombstone with it and decided to hang up the driving gloves. Had one repaint over the years as the only modification. Same old ugly green and antique couch seat in fine shape. A little tuning and down the road on past the cemetary we went. Got a lot of attention as is. Even at the drive-in when they would yell "Hey! Down in front!"
Bad picture but it is all that I have. My dad's ("Caretaker of the '41" on here) '41 master deluxe, all original unrestored with extremely low miles, and yes he keeps it in a bubble!
Sorry no pix but I did some work on my father in laws 40 sedan and I just love the shape of the car. Something about a fat fendered Chevy that's really cool.Lots of speed parts available for that 6 in a row also. Be careful over in Iraq- dont get your ass shot off! We can't afford to lose any of you guys!!

I have got a 292 6cyl planning a 200r4 and a explorer rearend with disk brakes. Plan on TRYING out knee action frt end with disk brakes added ........ THE BEST I CAN SAY IS I GOT INSIDE. UNLIKE P.O. ......./ all org. unmolested should be a fun rebuild.
