Woody wagon progress

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tinbender, Sep 1, 2004.

  1. I've been working on a woody wagon the last few days. I had to section in a new cowl. First step was to measure it out. The platform was as square as I've ever seen, so I made up some braces and started cutting. The first pic shows the platform. The cowl had been cut off with a torch.

  2. Next I marked and cut the cowl

  4. The drivers side was in bad shape, so it required a more complecated cut. I left the original innerstructure on the platform, and removed the skin.

  5. Then cut the new cowl to match, and set it on. With a little t*******, things fit nice

  7. Then I pulled the cowl back off, to build the pieces that were bad on the original cowl & the doner cowl. This is where I'm at today. Tonight I'll start making the parts to finish the drivers side. If there's any intrest in the project, I'll keep posting my progress.

  12. The car is a 46-48 Ford. It's going to be a street rod! 350/350 and it's going on a modern frame [IMG] The good news is, I get to keep the old suspension and axles [IMG]

tinbender.. thanks for the updates. please continue posting photos of whats happening .. any chance you can show the rear of the car? is the rear floor pan the same as the other 46 - 48 ford models? or did they build a different floor pan for wagons.. nice work so far.. that inner lower structure on 46 cowls is always tuff to fix..

    nice work

Iffn ya need some help with the woodwork, Its what I do.

    WOODWORK

I do all sorts of curves turns, laminations and carvings. I'll post some tips if anyone is interested.
If you send me a dimensioned sketch, I can produce the part for you, and would be happy to do for free.. Within reason, of course

  16. Wow, awsome wood work,Chaz! Thanks for the offer of help.
The owner is on a waiting list for a wood kit for the car. I think they run 10 grand! I won't be involved in the wood work.(I have enough to do!)

I think the rear floor is unique to woody wagons, It's the only thing left that doesn't need replacement.(it still needs some surgery) Once the cowl is done, I'll be replaceing both rockers, and the front, and center floor.

holy ****!!!!! Wow - That is some serious work - please keep posting pictures. My 46 needs rockers redone front to back - it is amazing to see the inside of the body without the skin. Thanks
