hey i have found 2 of these old dairy trucks i belive they are 1965 chevys but i dont know what the series is, can any one help me with this ? i have attached a few pics below thank you for any one that can helps
You might try ATHS.org http://www.aths.org/ ,or the stovebolt chevy bbs http://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthreads/ . Many old "body builders" like Boyertown made commercial bodies using Gm or Ford frames/drivelines. tt
where in Ont. are you as I cant find your intro. They would make cool drivers. I have a 75 step van I used to use as a flea market driver.
It looks like the style of Grumman built Chevy truck I had several years ago in Maryland. They had aluminum bodies which were built in a Long Island NY plant that had produced bombers during WWII. Grumman used their expertise in building aluminum bodies to build post war truck bodies. They built at least 3 different lengths. The missing grill looks very much like the Chevy pickup design of the same years. Be very careful with the curved windshield corners, finding others will be near impossible.
I know all about these! My momma said that my daddy, the milk man, used to drive one! Ha! Im just kidding. His wasnt a chevy.
The only one i've came across was called a divco. Looked like it was from the '40's. Dont have any pics. I've got the hub caps from it. There on my garage wall.
Mostly Divco's were used as milk trucks because Divco had been making refrigerated trucks since the mid 30s. That model step van Chevy made is called the Dubl-Duti. Yes that curved corner glass is next to impossible to find. Some models had a flat glass in that spot, not as good looking but with some metal work the frame can be modified to fit a flat piece, or with enough metal work someone could modify the whole windshield area and install late 80s or later RV glass. The windshields of those RVs had a similar style and only a Dubl-Duti expert would now the difference. (My '89 Komfort is almost exactly the same) There is a '59 Dubl-Duti sitting in a back yard about a half mile from my house that has a sign on it "make offer". I checked it out one day and found the pan had been removed (straight six). The owner was supposeed to contact me but never did. I really need to follow up on that. Grumman made the bodies and they used either Chevy or F-350 chassis. I'm not an expert but found this info on google. There are a few rodded ones around. Google Images and look for the white w/blue flamed sno-cone truck... very cool. There is one in the northeast that is an ice cream truck. I think its called "big bar ice cream" I want one to add to my fleet of (3) Divcos.
You'll need the serial to determine year. Chevy had several sources for factory approved bodies or you could add your own to the Dubl-Duti, which came in 3/4 and 1-ton variants. They called that a "Forward Control" van body.
My Dad built a camper out of one, I overhauled the engine and trans in it for him and he disapeared for 6 months. It's just an old chev 6, his was a 235 with a toploader 3 speed. I put a later model truck 4 speed in it for him.
would a 350 out of a 93 chevy pick up fit in ? with little or no mods ? and would i be able to do a auto tranny or keep it a 3 speed in the tree
There was one in my neighborhood a few years back that was still being driven. Ended up being bought by an antique shop who lettered it and parked in front as a sign.
