I picke dup a Muncie transmission, with the speedo gear ont he driver's side...will this fit with a Hurst shifter, or should I order a "Muncie" shifter? I'm worried about sufficient clearance of the speedo cable --to not interfere with the shifter rods...
I still have my '69 Camaro, which I purchased 38 years ago while working at the local Ford dealer! It came stock with a Hurst Compe***on/Plus shifter. If you buy a replacement Hurst shifter, the installation instructions will tell you to use the original GM mounting bracket - rather than the one supplied with the Hurst installation kit. Cl***ic Industries has a reproduction of this mounting bracket. By all means, buy the reproduction GM mounting bracket. The Hurst bracket places the shifter too close to the left side of the driveshaft tunnel. If you're not running a console, you could dent the tunnel for the needed clearance. If you're running a console, the shifter will most likely rub the edge of the console opening.
I've used Hurst shifter's on all my Muncie's. I can understand why you guy's are suggesting another forum due to the 'newness' of the car, but the question could be relevant regardless of what the transmission is in.. Lot's of us run Muncie's in our hot rods. Tony
Exactly and Muncies ARE Hamb Freindly by ANY of your rules. The 64' Muncies came Factory with a Hurst shifter. Ive never heard of a "muncie" shifter. however the newest I deal with that, is 65'
yes! muncie did make a shifter, i even have a three speed muncie out of a 1967 Camaro. i hate to say it but muncie shifter's were pretty much junk, but are worth a lot since they were factory. Chris
Never heard of a Muncie shifter?? where you been? stamped right on the side of the GM issue shifter in the Muncie equipped cars like Novas , Chevelles,Camaros,, Looks just like this >> M U N C I E ,,, gawwwwd !
Muncie 4 spds were also known as "Chevy Spaghetti" due to their linkages tendency to bend. Thank goodness that Pontiac decided to go with Hurst and showed the others what decent linkage was like.
