What firewall mods need to be done to slip a 348 in a 47 Ford Coupe? Need to install a "*****in" or what?

I stuffed a 348 into a 1940 Ford coupe in 1965 using a Hurst motor mount. I was just a teenager and a simple "dent" in the firewall with a sledge hammer (no kidding) around the rear of the right cylinder head gave me all the clearance I needed.

Wow! If all it took you was a little sledge work to put one in a 40 then I should be in good shape putting one in my 47! I've been collecting 348 parts for 10 years now appears the right time to use one!

I have a lead on a hurst motor mount, now what do I have to do to the frame to fit a 2004R behind the W?

depends on whether or not you want to be able to pull the trans without the motor.

Tell me Phat, I'm guessing the easiest method for me would be the engine transmisson removal together option? Someone make a "kit" to bolt into the frame? Any knowledge you can share would be most appreciated sir!:D

If you use a 200-4R you need to use the side engine mounts.

Why is that? Why does it matter how the engine is mounted? Side mount or front Hurst mount?

The bellhousing/engine block connection hanging between a front of engine motor support(Hurst or early pin-style mounts) and a end of tailshaft transmission mount like the 200-4R has the potential to crack the bellhousing of the transmission.
It's also easy enough to make up some supports like the 55-57 Chevy people use on their cars with late engines and transmissions.

Check out this page of Ch***is Engineerings catalog. Part number ES-2124 $65.85 I know this one is for a T-350 or Glide but it gives you an idea and you could make one yourself.

Speedway still sell Hurst mounts for W motors. The 40 for info's interesting, as I'm putting a tri power 348 in my 40 deluxe sedan

Good info Pasadenahotrod and Phat! I'll look into fabbing a mid mount and the ch***is engineering catalog! Neils I believe the 40 deluxe is the highwater mark for Ford body design! My wifes uncle in Reno has a survivor SoCal 40 deluxe coupe with a Eddie Meyer flatty, still has the br*** rebuild tag riveted to the engine. Funny thing is Eddie used Eldebrock heads and not a pair of his own? He got it from the gentleman who had it done in LA way back when! You know the best part of this story? My wifes uncle is a 100 point purest and he is going to restore it and get rid of the "HOT ROD" engine and I'm first in line to buy that piece of history!

Phat I checked out the link from ch***is engineering, I'm going to go that route, split the bones and run a TH350 instead of the 2004R. Also getting an Offy dual quad intake for the W motor!
