I know I'm getting older and it's hard to see at night but, are these new headlights freaking extra bright? Seem's like everyones driving with their brights on. Am I the only one who thinks they are way too bright?

Dude it's even worse for four eyes like me. I just see two big bluey stars coming at me.
That being said it's pretty cool to be behind the wheel with new lights...you can see fleas on a deers ass at night.

I agree. I have some retinal damage from weld burns and bright lights are the devil for me. I have to pull off the road some times.

Im one of the guys with the bright headlights, sorry everyone, but i really do encourage you to drive with them, i know it may seem counterproductive, but for your own safety they are amazing, mine arent overly bright, i know which ones your talkin about, but its saved me a few deer to the grille, i would have definantly hit one with the normal lights though. But you better get usedto them i suppose, seems like everyone is switching to them, btw, they sell the kits on egay for a lil over 100 bucks for most normal aps.

its funny, 10 years ago i went to get my car registered with blue dots in the tail lights, i was rejected, they reckon the dot could make a shade of blue light and blue light was illegal being the colour used by police.
ive never had bright lights, never really needed them, i had high beam but barely used them, same as wipers, seriously and my demister never worked very well, it never bothered me but friends with new cars would ride with me and say we are gonna die, i kind of like it, in the middle of no were with that earie dim yellow glow through the trees on windy country road at night, wenever i travel distances i only travel at night, often for over 10 hours straight, when ever a modern car is behind me i just make a dark shadow.
now after the rebuild i have 4 headlights instead of two, all brand new and running on 8 seperate relays, will it still feel the same at night.
anyway i dont like the new lights and ive heard alot of truckers have a hell time dealing with them, at first i chased a few people and abused them after i had to pull over just so the selfish bastards could pass, if they have those xenon lights that flicker in your mirror on bumpy roads you let them pass, get behind them and leave your high beem on will accelerating and braking
get rid of xenon, bring back the autronic eye.

them things are terrible! My ot. daily is low to the ground, and when i get the assholes in the lifted trucks up behind me with them lights, and driving lights on, i cant see.

Im happy with my tried and true 6 volt babys in my soon to be daily Buick.

And... why do folks drive with their fog lights on when the night is perfectly clear? Doubles the problem for me. Gary

Funny, ain't it? These people have plenty of money to install these high intensity lights, but no money to have them properly aimed.

the new lights suck!!!! and if you have them in your car, you suck too!!! whatever happened to plain ol common courtesy on the road. the companys makin these things never thought about the safety issues of the on coming driver. these things are dangerous and should be banned!!!

I live in a rural area and yeah, lights are an issue sometimes. The blueish lights aren't near as bad as some of the ultra whites when they're comin at ya but some of em are pretty well too much. So what did I do? I put one of those super white xenons in my snowmobile. Not much help though...I used to ride at speeds that were over the available light at times, now it's all the time! Coming out of a corner, crack the throttle, I see tree limbs. While driving up to ride the newer lights do light the shit out of the surrounding snow so vision is sometimes better. I think the bubbletop gets the evil whites as I plan to drive the shit outta that thing...someday.

What's the legislation with these lights and conversions in your parts then?
Overhere you may only put xenon lights on your car if they are self-adjusting.
Maybe it's time for someone to get active and propose a law for this kinda thing?

Most of my cars I have converted to motorcyle headlamps because the sealed beam style suck, especially if they are as old as the car...

The other problem is due to old windshields... I can't see squat a night due to hazy glass... Super bright headlamps make it even worse. I has dished out some dough for a new windshield just because it's hard to see out of it at night.

Now here's something you can fix. My 54Chevy was like that and imposible to drive at night with the lights coming at me.

I figured I got nothing to lose so I bought the glass polish kit from Eastwood and used it with a borrowed B&D variable speed buffer. Got the kit with 5/8-11 thread.

tHis worked, it's not as good as new glass, but it helped to where I am comfortable now at night.

Anybody running ultra bright lights gets to see my high beams. I've got to be able to see the road too ............. and sorry, you don't own it!

Ultra white, blue or fog/running lights when the weather is clear make it extremely difficult for oncoming traffic to see the edges of the road. A little consideration is all we're asking for. If anyone ever runs into you because you blinded them, you might change your thinking.

btw, aftermarket fog or running lights are illegal to use on the hwy here. Offroad only.

Thanks guys. I'm glad I'm not the only one. One thing I've been told is that in Oklahoma if you have some asshole with his brights on and you flash your's at him the cops can ticket you for AGGRESSIVE DRIVING, no ticket for him tho. I've just about stopped driving at night unless I know where I'm going. Oh, and a couple people have told me where to go.

  20. There's so many dang SUV's and Trucks on the road too. They can be a problem too.
We got morons here who's headlights get extra dirty in the winter time. Instead of washing them off they just drive with the brights on.

Besides being blinded in the front, our cars are kind of hard to see from the back because the tailights just aren't as bright and big as the new ones..Sally and I were driving in the Pickup the other night on 1826 and some moron in a house up on a hill was playing with a greenish laser and decided to shine it on that white truck down on the road..it was like a camera flashbulb going off inside the cab..Sally was temporarily blinded and I had an instant headache..I lurched over to the side of the road, called 911, and had the Sheriff go pay them a visit...

I don't like those suckers, either; at least, not from the standpoint of an old worn out fart with less than youthful eyes and many years of abuse to them, driving into heavy oncoming traffic. However, from the drivers seat, they are head and shoulders above anything that has come before. One of my boys has a fancy dancy Lexus SUV type thing with those lights on it from the factory, and they left it with us one time when they were out of the country; after dropping them at the airport, on the way back to the house, I noticed that I could see better than usual, but there was not so much reflective return from stuff along the road, just good clear illumination. Strange. I still think that a good set of halogen lamped sealed beams, properly adjusted, is a good compromise; not a lot of "dazzle" to oncoming drivers, and a decent level of light from the drivers seat. As to laws, I think the ones already on the books would suffice, regarding aiming, lamp height, and high/low beam operation; we just have to educate drivers, and get the authorities to enforce them. I mentioned this problem to a NHP guy one day, and he said they had to sort of prioritize things that they get after folks for, and headlights was not high on their list.

Driving at night when we get older is a real problem. I got new glasses a few months ago and had an anti glare coating put on them. It really helped a lot. I still don't drive much at night unless I have to.

Careful guys, if some of us complain too much...our government will get 'involved'. They listen to the needs of the few and not the many and will end up making yet another law they can make money off of and we'll ALL have to abide by it.....and probably hate.

I don't know about you, but I've given up enough of my so-called freedom.

I'll just continue to 'glance down' when oncoming bright lights head my way.

  28. When I was driving my cycle I would be blinded by those blue lamps. So i bought a 100,000 candle power headlamp for the cycle, they give me the hi-beam I throw on the barn burner. You should see how fast they dim their lights now.

  29. Yeah, makes me want to invest in a good 9 iron and do my Jack Nickelson impression for 'em. Unfortunatly this is one of those Pandoras Box things, it'll never go back to the way it was.

The HID or Xenon headlights are horrible when people put them in a housing not made for the purpose and the glare sears your retina as they come up behind you or in front of you. Albeit the ones that come stock in a projector housing aren't that bad. But yes they are annoying and fogs lights are called fog lights for a reason.
