Ford 8 inch axle tube housing diameter?

    Can anyone tell me the diameter of a Ford 8 inch rearend axle tube housing?

    depends on the year the one i have is 3 inches

    i thing the early falcon and mustangs ones are 2 1/2 i think

    It's a '71 Maverick rearend, I would measure it but it is not in my possession yet...

    There's also a smaller one with a stepped down tube and 4 bolt wheels...

    I got mine from a 68 mustang it is 2 3/4"

    Just about 3" . Under rated rear . Holds up good on street cars . I never had a problem with them either !

    66 Mustang: 2 13/16" stepped down to 2 1/4" .

    Can't find U bolts for my 8 inch.....I have the early mustang that steps down to 2 1/4", and the parts store is telling me the smallest u bolt they have is 2 1/2.

    Where can I get them?

    I had to have some custom bent when I put blocks under my shoebox.

    yup, after talking to Napa and Carquest, it sounds like mine will be custom bent too.

    id try a off road store, like one that specializes in lifting trucks and such. thay can prolly find any size you want....
