There is a pretty nice Lincoln for sale, I am thinking about buying the Lincoln, kind of like a "poor mans Merc"!

My wife "is not thrilled" about this propisition but the car is nice, runs good, and very, very, complete so I think I will buy it anyway, unless someone talks me out of it...

Oh, it is a 2 door...

What I want are HAMB opinions about 55 Capri's... If I am about to screw up, someone should let me know...

I think about buying many things. If I only had the money.

Talk you out of it? Not me.

This is a very similar 54, and the one I am looking at is blue and not so chery, (but pretty nice).

What are your opinions of the styling?

    I'd buy it!
I'd even like the blue better than the red.

You know it is always iffy,,, I looked the car over pretty close without getting destructive, the floors are intact with little or nothing visible that makes me worry, and a few pin holes at the bottom of the doors. The drivers rear quarter has some evidence of a questionable repar but when the rest of the car is taken into consideration I cant imagine that this is evidence of a major rust issue.

The seller bought the car about a year ago and has since had some health problems. He has stated that the car might have come from either CA or NC, the previous owners had recently lived in both places so he was not sure of where the car came from. I am inclined to think CA,,,

Unless someone is damn, damn good at covering rust, rust will not be an issue on this car. I put the chances at less than 10% that the wool is being pulled over my eyes here...

I didn't bring my camera this weekend,,, damnit. I always bring it and don't use it, now I need it and don't have it. I will try and post up some pics tomorror, but if I do, by then it means I will have already bought the car...

LOL,, yea that IS how it WAS, now I am not so sure... funny how times change..

The car is as solid as a rock and runs like a top. The doors sound like a vault door closing.. I am smitten.. :D

One of the really COOL things about this car is that I can DRIVE it and look cool, just as it sits... What a concept, drive the car and THEN fix it....

I think it's a good total package; styling, power (0-60 in 12 seconds), handling (think Carrera Panamericana), and comfort. The only thing it's NOT is economical, at over 4000 lbs. Needs only lowering to make a nice cruiser.

I love the detail on the bright work and the dagmars. I also like the 'mail slot' grille. (or lack of grille). Classy ride.

The 1955 Lincoln Capri 2dr was one of the better designed cars of the mid-50s in my opinion. All they really need is lowering and they look fantastic....not to mention the really nice factory interior these cars came with. I'd say go for it!

I was just gonna say I bet the trim is realhard to find, but sounds like you're good in that department.

What were you thinking of doing with it?

To my eye it looks like a 52-54 ford victoria(if that's what the hardtops were) with different trim/grille, no?

I don't like the headlight area and they look a bit old lady to me, but maybe you're gonna cut it up in pieces so who knows?

Maybe keep it relatively stock and just lower it and drive around?

Ok, i rounded up a picture of a 55, a little nicer than the one I bought this morning.... but there are a few differences like the headlights which I like better...

I sent my son to pick the car up, he should be back by about 8:00 or 9:00 this evening, then I will go for a cruise... and a photo session..

Lots of potential, and some already clean lines.

Best part is you don't see many these days.

Sounds like a sweet little project.

    lmao, or Buick or Caddy.

  21. You must check the lower rear quater panel behind the stainless trim, mine was pretty good apart from that section. The seller wont let you pull the trim off, but if you go into the boot, there should be a kinda like a boot linner extention thing on each side, two screws, remove it, and put your hand way down in there and feel around. Also they rust under the headlights.
PM me if you have any other Q's.

I sent my son with a flatbed trailer to bring the car the 250 miles from southern AZ to southern New Mexico, he was driving it to the loading ramp and it stalled out in the biggest intersection in the Sierra Vista,,,, Figures.

He is waiting for a jump start at the moment... Hopefully this is all it will need...

I was looking foreward to a nice little cruise this evening... does not look good now...

That is an awesome looking car. I had no intention of buying another car anytime soon, but I was visiting my parents in AZ and he said "there is an old Lincoln in the classified section".... I looked at some pitures over the internet, went and looked at the car and I was hooked. It is a cool old car, and not nearly so "huge" as I thought it might be...

I am looking foreward to this build. It will be nice to start with a roadworthy car from the get-go...

  28. SWEET, those are killer looking cars, even stock! I can't wait to see pics.

Check out the front x member. They all rust out there. A new one will set you back 300.00! This is where the front lower a arm bushings go. Also the hood hinges on those cars are usually bad. Good luck.
