I've just bought a 56-66 Ford "big job" truck hood scoop for my '62 Ford Fairlane and originally I was going to mount it as a air cleaner cover. But once I placed in on the hood, it looked like it was meant to be there (my scoop has a chrome grille that mimics my grille). But my brother said that magic word: *shaker.* It would be pretty cool to have it as a working shaker hood, but I don't know it it would fit with my mid '60s (66/67) look. Were there any cars that had a shaker-style hood, before the mustang and mopars received them? Thanks! Tom - Gl***_Packs
Not that I know of. I belive the '69 Mustangs were some of the earliest cars to come with a shaker. I can't think of anything in '68 that had 'em.
I feel that the big job scoop is too small to be used as an actual shaker , bolt it on as intended , ggod luck Bill
The "shaker" hood is just an adaptation from the drag strip where people used to cut holes in the hood to clearance things like blowers, taller intakes, etc. So, the concept probably dates back to the 50's. But I don't recall seeing hood scoops mounted to the engine, just injectors, etc.
Fitch did some multicarbed OHC I6 Firebirds in '67 that had a finned shaker aircleaner/scoop offset on the hood. Looked cool. I'm sure there are earlier examples but not particularly "production" cars.
Thanks for the info guys. I think for now I'll stick to the K.I.S.S. philosophy and bolt it to the hood. Thanks! Tom - Gl***_Packs
One of the names I was thinking of giving the car if it had the shaker scoop was the "Quaker Shaker" Tom - Gl***_Packs P.S. - If I bolt it onto the hood, should I block the air and rain getting inside (maybe replacing the mesh on the grille with a plate)? Or would it be better to leave it open?
