Does anybody know where to have the under-the-seat-core rebuilt, or where to find one NOS, reman. or used and still good? Dad is upholstering a 52 convertible. When the core got "disturbed" while moving things around, it started leaking. Guess that's better than having it start leaking after everything is done. It seems that noone, at least locally (middle TN), rebuilds old cores or radiators anymore. I can imagine lots of reasons why this is true. Thanks if anybody can help.
there was an article in, I think, Street Rodder last month about using a '52 Buick heater core to heat a truck. there's didn't leak, but tehy had some good tips about using and cleaning them, and maybe some tips on finding/repairing them
Kanter is also a good source for rare parts, however any good radiator shop shoudl be able to repair/rebuild it.
Best bet is to have a local place do it, most of the older Buicks you won't find one sitting on a shelf.
Thanks for all the input, and we'll follow up on your ideas. I wish we could just find somebody reputable to clean and rebuild it, but it seems to be a dying occupation. Anybody know of a place we could successfully ship it to have it re-done right?
The general Buick group might be better for finding a heater core. Though there are some great guys on the Nailhead group you'll reach more people and the Nailhead guys with the regular Buick group. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/buicks/
