Ryan, Sounds like there is still a huge interest in the Cinematic. I have another Ohio Drive-In in mind that would be a good candidate. The place is called the Skyview Cruise-In Theater. It is in Lancaster Ohio. It is NOT some old run down ragtag survivor. The family that owns it has lovingly kept it in top condition. It is literally like stepping back in time to see a movie there. Absolutely the best Drive-In I have ever been too. The Snack Bar is more like a restaraunt...pizza, subs, B-B-Q...much more than just hot dogs & popcorn. I bet with some advance notice they could easily add some breakfast items for an all night event. It has both FM sound thru the car stereo & the old style window speakers. Plus. Lancaster is a fairly big town. They have plenty of hotels to accommodate lots of out of state rodders. Their website (www.skyviewdrivein.com) has photos, a menu and even a e-mail contact link. With your blessing Ryan, I would be glad to make contact with them on behalf of the HAMB. Bill Shaw
I really hope that something can be pulled together to keep the Cinematic alive! It was the most fun that I had at any event last year! Got to meet a bunch of great folks, was offered Spam sandwiches and blender-drinks, saw some great traditional rods and heard an awesome band. It just doesn't get any better than that! Jim
Tulsa has a big drive in called the Admiral Twin,Its also off of old route 66 (now highway 244). http://www.selectcinemas.com/admiral_twin_drivein.htm It can be booked for events. So thats my thought on this.
The Skyview seems like a good bet.... There's also one in Fairborn (Suburb of Dayton) right by the Air Force base that's kinda cool...opened in 1950 It was operational till 05 and it got sold so i don't know the situation now.....but it's still there....just drove by it yesterday. The site says it's still operational. The plus side is it's very easy to get to. http://www.drive-ins.com/theater/ohtskyb Also, this one is still open on Needmore Rd. in Dayton. http://www.drive-ins.com/theater/ohtdix2 The now have two screens. I was looking forward to this show in 09' because I couldn't make it last year. it's sad to see the long list of drive-in's that used to be in this area alone and now only one is truely operational in Dayton. There were over 270 in Ohio at one time....now there's a handful.
Not that my opinion counts....but i missed last year, had hotel and all that ****, but the oppertunity of helping a buddy work on a old car came first. I missed it, wished i didn't, looked forward to this year...saddened that it is possibly over. Fingers crossed something might work
I think I can speak for the whole Central Indiana crew when I say we all would support another Cinematic somewhere in the midwest again. How about it guys? speak up
Oh man, that ****s. I don't know it wasn't going to happen this year Despite the rain and not seeing the movie we had the most fun just hanging out in the parking lot. There was such a nice laid back vibe to the show, I'll really miss it if it doesn't happen again. Ryan had a REALLY ****ty weekend with the whole almost dying thing on the way there and the fiasco with the weather and movie. I hope that didn't dampen his desire to make a go of this event again.
^^^^^BOOOOOOO^^^^^^^^ You guys have enough cool stuff going on in So Cal. Got to keep this one in the mid west
Gotta agree with this statement. And I also half to thank Bubba and the Indy crowd for introducing me to SPAM...I never thought I'd ever be talked into that one. An amazing thing happened last year, it rained AND it was a great show. You NEVER find that.
What Bill said, Walt and his family have taken great care of their ozoner. I've watched a movie there and sampled their concession stand. Top notch is my grade for the place. Then there's the Georgetown Drive In in New Albany, IN ( just outside Louisville ) I've heard that the owner Billy Powell has a soft spot for old car movies. http://www.georgetowndrivein.com/
Yeah, I know the Indy crew LOVED this event. Enjoyed it both years and will be sad to see this one fall off the event schedule.
I hate to here the news of not doing The Hot Rod Cinematic this year, we meet some very nice people and was greeted with open arms. I know it rained got hot and rained again with 40mph winds and we loved it. Hope you guys can help pull this show off again, somewhere Oh, Ky, Indy, just let us know. And more people show up!
Some of us have offered help, it''s up to Ryan now. I can understand his reluctance though, organizing something from that far away can be a nightmare.
I'll help any way I can.... I already organize a pretty major show every year for the past 8 years....
What about making it a non-HAMB sponsored event and we just all happen to show up? Could we do this so Ryan wouldn't have to?
We have one here In the **** whole called Hamilton! would be cool, and I think if a guy winks at the owner you would get a discount The car scene here is crazy! people line up to hang out!
Thats the Holiday isn't it? I've heard tales of excessive and strict rules. Is that true? For what it's worth, we do a Drive-In show every year in Mt. Sterling, Ky.
So this would be just a "movie" thing and not the get together and show for the kids......because the Cinematic was for the kids and togetherness. Mmmmm some HAMB-love!
Yeah, I think thats it. The owner has a bunch of old School buses out front. I can check in too it if Ryan would like. It's on Old Oxford road.
I'm still willing to try and try and set something up. I'd want to try and avoid conflicts with other shows and for it to indeed be a family thing. I don't want to step on any toes either. http://www.drive-ins.com/theater/wvtjung
Is that a dry county? I will be in Moorehead tomorrow, so the Wife can visit family. If i'm correct olive hill is not that far away. Pm me your #
Ryan I will volunteer as free help with the one in Lancaster Ohio if they are available. just let me know.
I'd like to see the Cinematic happen again in the future. Until then you all are more then welcome to come to the event I mentioned before at the Judy Drive-In , Mt Sterling, KY on September 6th The movie this year isn't really HAMB related but Smokey and the Bandit is still fun. Here's a link to the information for you guys who might be interested. http://www.cartercountycruisers.com/forums/index.php?topic=1144.0
