I've been wanting to build myself a street rod for a LONG time. I worked at a rod shop while I was in college where we built typical gl*** cars with SBC in them. They were pretty and fast but I never liked any of them enough to spend the big dough building one. I just got done building myself an 80' vette using mostly late model parts. This was to satisfy my wife who thinks all "old cars" constantly need work. The vette gets 30 mpg, has air, and drives very nicely=she's willing to ride in it. Unfortunetly shes not really into cars. So when i show her potential nastalgia builds, the kinda cars I really get excited about, she gives me dirty looks and says "you want to spend your money to build that piece of ****?" I won out big time saturday!! Some budies and I were out at a piece of property, my family has owned forever squirel hunting. Growing up my dad mentioned that my grandpa, whom i never met, had built a mill somewhere on the property. We found it Sat. Well it turns out he drove his Model T pickup into the woods, tore it aparts, and used the parts to build the mill. Almost everything is there!! And somehow after 80 yrs, theres almost no rust on anything. Most of the sheet metal is gone, but the cowl is still mounted right behind the motor on the mills wooden frame. I asked Dad about it when we got home and he said he thought there might be some more parts for it and another engine in one of the barns. Call me sentimental but Im more excited about building this 35 hp truck thats been in my family for almost 100 yrs than anything else Ive ever built! Im going to try and make it back down to get the truck as soon as it dries out so I wont have any pics till then.
Cool story! That should be pretty cool....I can see it now...."Mill Find T Hot Rod." Good luck with the build, and welcome from Conway.
Welcome from Conway. I used to live in Gillett, and one time went bowling in Monticello with some friends. I bowled 9 strikes in a row warming up while they put on their shoes, and then couldn't hit anything the rest of the night.
Oh OK The guy he sold the place to ran the business into the ground. Then proceeded to blame it on Darwin. I thought you might have rolled with that guys crew. I worked for Darwin for several years in college and then for another year after I graduated with an Engineering degree just because I loved working with the guy. Man he taught me ALOT!!
LOL! I wasnt even aware that Monticello had a bowling ally!! I took a bowling cl*** in college and at the time averaged 200. Now Im lucky to break 100.
