  1. He was an avid pilot and I used to see him at the EAA Fly-in in Oshkosh every year and he'd do interviews with the astronauts, Pilots, and Builders from around the world.

I remember seeing him in 1981 with General Chuck Yeager and in 1988 with JFK Jr. and Senator Barry Goldwater in Oshkosh and a year later he was looking at aircraft with John Travolta and John Denver.

Always enjoyed his Clean Humor, down home approach and his honesty... God Bless you Mr. Harvey...!!!

I think he was on radio for a record 70 years!!!!

  2. He was a hoot. I loved his ads for the electric utility industry: "Get out of their way".

And when he'd do a story on ***ual or physical abuse of a woman or child, he'd use the word, 'misuse' instead of, 'abuse'. So clever!

The over-pronunciation, the pregnant pauses, yep, the end of the crystal radio era is over.

    Good day?

That is a question I've had for years, there was a '60's Mustang on the cover of a drag racing magazine with Paul Harvey painted along the side. His "Rest of the story" stories should be in book form. I didn't know the one today about the founder of Hertz Rent a Car was the last one I'd hear. He will be missed but always remembered.

I remember listening to him throughout my life from the time I was a boy,... whenever I would be dialing through the stations and heard his very distinctive voice, It would stop me dead and command my full attention,... even if it was new or stories I had already heard, I wanted to hear Paul Harveys slant on it.

He always earned and received the greatest amount of respect and admiration from me as a newsman,... For a lot of people the most trusted news man was Walter Cronkite (who I couldn't stand) for me it was always unquestionably Paul Harvey.

    R.I.P. Paul,.... you deserve it.

Very sad to hear that. I grew up listening to Paul and make it a point to listen every chance I get. Prayer to his family.

  16. There are not many "news" broadcasters left. Like the other poster, I too couldn't stand Walter Cronkite and I didn't trust him any more than I could throw him. Paul Harvey, on the other hand, I would trust any time, any day. God bless & RIP..

If you look at what a gentleman he was and what a great newsman, then look at the **** that p***es for news today, you can see how bad what p***es for news today has become, he was the last great newsman. I always loved the way he blended ads and news, I'm a big fan of old time radio, and thats the way you often did it then,he kept it alive all these years. Who will start their show with the pledge now? does anybody anymore? Oh the one he liked with the kids saying it, thats off of Ray Stevens everything is beautiful, right at the beginning

Yeah, My dad says the guy that fired him told him he would never make it in radio.

  19. I can remember listening to Paul Harvey at my Great Uncles house almost 40 years ago. I loved the piece he did on the young pilot named Manny that couldn't fly. Luckily the young man figured out how to keep a plane in the air AND land it safely before they found him another job. He went on to great things and made quite a record for himself.
Manny turned out to be quite a pilot...
    Manfred von Richthofen

Yes, the Red Baron. And now you know...the rest of the story.

    RIP Mr. Harvey.

Used to hear his show at lunchtime when I was in school and made fun of him with my pals (so distinctive, he was easy to imitate). Then years later, I savored listening to him during lunch breaks at work.
Nowdays, I can't think of Paul Harvey, without picturing the scene of him broadcasting in "Rich Hall's Vanishing America". So funny...

He'd tell you storie's you would have never known otherwise. And, you felt informed, not talked down to. He would 'paint pitcure's' in your mind's eye. And his sad storie's made you FEEL for the subject (person). Thank God, for people like him, they are indeed rare. Bless his soul-
