I don't like to place ads with a "make offer" notation. Better to state a price.

I have a bare 354 Chrysler block stamped 3NE561596 and then about an inch away a little star, or more like a German Iron Cross. No main caps, bored +.060" to about. 4.000", no ridge to speak of, no other parts. Looks to be in decent shape. I've looked in the Hot Heads site but I don't see bare, no main cap blocks. Whats the thing worth?

    Thanks.

Don't know about the value, but the stamping indicates the engine is from a 1956 Chrysler 300-B. A diamand after the number indicates the the lifter bores are .0008 overbore. Too bad you don't have the rest of the engine.

Yeah, it's all he had. He was cleaning out his garage and brought it over.

I would say around 250 with no main caps. Never know, early hemi stuff brings big $$ sometimes.

Early Hemi prices vary a lot, you have two things going against this engine, like you said no main caps, theres probably some out there but it may need line boring with differnt caps, also the bore is pushing the limits for a 354 depending on core shift and whether it needs to be freshened up. The thing about the pricing though is someone may give you as much for it to build up a display engine, I've had that happen before!

The maltese cross indicated undersize rods or mains.

That .060 bore is way o/t so doubt it will command much in the way of price, since it is a bare block. About the only thing worth noting is the 300-A status.

4" is usually a max overbore. A restorer might want to sleeve it if he was doing a 300.

As we have discussed many times before, the allowable bore size is determined, by a large degree, on the what the sonic test says. These block can have alot of core shift, but many blocks are still good at 060 or 080. At $100 per hole, sleeving makes for an expensive block.
The 3NE stamp does have some additional value.
Lack of main caps can be an issue, but, for example, if I had access to your block I could justify taking caps off of one of the damaged blocks in the shop. Others may or may not have caps available and the value to them will be different. If you have your own machine shop then LA caps or billet caps can be installed. It is not an easy swap but it can be done.
The total cost of making your block usuable will determine the core value.
$150 sounds reasonable to me if the sonic check is ok.

Even if it is max bore, someone could throw some 4 bolt main caps in it and go racing!!!

Lamar Walden Automotive just bored my 354 .60 over after a sonic check, said it could have gone even more but 4" was the piston size we wanted to use and I am a fan of thick walls anyway.

Yea I know they are a "chevy" shop but quality macine work is quality machine work and he told me he had built some Hemis 30 years ago or so.

  16. This will piss you all off... i just took a complete 354 (less block) down for s****! Got tired of looking for a block (4 years and nothing) and tried to sell it but i guess no one wanted it, listed it all for 500.00 but no takers, so when i moved, it along with a lot of other motors went to s****.

Why didn't you list it on the HAMB for s**** value (or free) rather than s**** vintage parts?

I have a short block 354 that has been outside for years that I have been thinking of giving it a mol***es soak , I think that now is the time.

Maybe in a year or so I will post the results.

My understanding is a month or so. Check to see how your lifter bores are.
